Cambodia China deploys Golden Dragon 2025 exercise

Speaking at the opening ceremony, delegates emphasized that the 7th Golden Dragon exercise aims to further develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Cambodia and China, as well as exchange experiences, strengthen common security views and improve practical combat capabilities between the two militaries in counter-terrorism and humanitarian relief.

With the theme “Cooperation in Counter-Terrorism and Humanitarian Relief”, the Golden Dragon 2025 exercise will involve more than 2,000 Cambodian and Chinese military personnel, mobilizing more modern weapons and military equipment than previous exercises, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in combat training.

The Cambodian military uses artillery, mortars, armored personnel carriers, ambulances, mobile troop transport vehicles, maritime patrol boats, helicopters and a large amount of light and heavy weapons.

The People's Liberation Army of China uses mobile artillery on vehicles, howitzers, rubber-tired combat vehicles, tracked armored personnel carriers, C5 command vehicles, unmanned vehicles, robots, robot dogs, helicopters, warships, land attack craft, reconnaissance drones, attack drones, heavy and light weapons and intelligence equipment, medical equipment, explosives and large amounts of ammunition.

Before the opening ceremony on May 17, the actual exercises within the framework of the exercise took place from May 14 and are expected to last until May 28. The Golden Dragon 2025 exercise consists of two parts. The first is the land and air exercises at the Royal Cambodian Gendarmerie Training Center in Kampong Chhnang province. The second is the sea and air exercises, at sea and in Preah Sihanouk province.

General Chhum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, said that this exercise between the Cambodian and Chinese armies still aims to learn from each other, enhance security, prevent terrorism and is not intended to threaten or harm any country. He emphasized that the Golden Dragon 2025 exercise reflects the achievements of the traditional friendship between Cambodia and China promoted by the leaders of the two countries, especially during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in April 2025, thereby further promoting the building of a Cambodia-China community with a shared future under all circumstances in the new era.
