Interesting experience points

Co Tien Mountain is not far from the center of Nha Trang City to the north, the starting point for hiking up the mountain along the trail is on Ngo Van So Street. With a terrain that is not difficult to walk, you can see the city from above, Co Tien Mountain is chosen by many locals, tourists and young people as a place to hike, picnic and camp. Mr. Pham Vu Thanh An (Phuoc Tan Ward) said that he has participated in hiking activities here since 2020. As a teacher, he also often organizes for some young people to experience, plant trees on the mountain, and pick up trash to bring back. Not only adults, many children also enjoy climbing Co Tien Mountain. Mr. Nguyen Tran Duy Vien, who often treks Co Tien Mountain on weekends, said that Co Tien Mountain has many locations with beautiful views. The mountain has 3 peaks to stop and rest, and many people often choose peak 1 as the lowest and closest peak to climb and return in the day. The most suitable time to climb Co Tien Mountain is early morning or late afternoon. The mountain is quite easy to go, but for first-timers, it is necessary to pay attention to go in groups; have lighting, supplement enough water and nutrition for the body... He and his friends often walk up the mountain, rest, relax, and then return in the day. Everyone also always keeps clean by not littering, cleaning up the resting place, bringing trash down the mountain, and preventing forest fires by putting out cooking fires...

Safety must be ensured.

Although it is a favorite experience spot for many people, outdoor activities at Co Tien Mountain are spontaneous activities of local people and tourists. Therefore, safety factors are the responsibility of each individual. Climbing Co Tien Mountain, in addition to risks due to subjective factors of individuals, there are other factors, typically the fire that occurred from the evening of January 10 until about 3:30 a.m. on January 11. At the time of the fire, there were 25 people camping in the Co Tien Mountain area, the authorities brought everyone down the mountain safely.

This is not the first time a fire has broken out on Co Tien Mountain. Previously, on the evening of July 12, 2019, a group of about 30 people climbed and camped on Co Tien Mountain. During that time, a 14-year-old child lit a fire. Due to dry weather, strong winds, and dry trees that easily catch fire, the fire spread to about 3,000 square meters. The locality had to mobilize police, militia and support from other units with more than 100 people to put out the fire and rescue those trapped. After this incident, the People's Committee of Vinh Hoa Ward organized a temporary ban on climbing in this area during the dry season to ensure security and safety for the people.

Mr. Bui Danh Hai - Vice Chairman of Vinh Hoa Ward People's Committee said that there are trees on Co Tien mountain but not many, mostly cogon grass, which is easily burned in the dry season. Because the fires are mainly cogon grass, they do not spread to the foot of the mountain, and do not affect the surrounding residents. However, the recent fire was quite large, possibly because recently the cogon grass has grown a lot on the mountain, the dry weather has made the speed and area of the fire spread quite large. The time of the recent fire occurred when many climbers were camping, so there was a risk of affecting the health and safety of the climbers. Fortunately, the authorities were present in time to ensure safety.

According to local leaders, climbing and camping on Co Tien Mountain are normal activities, exercises, and picnics for locals and tourists; many groups also organize practical activities such as: picking up trash, planting trees on the mountain... Therefore, the locality does not restrict this activity. However, to make it safer for everyone participating in activities here, the ward will ask for the opinion of the City People's Committee and install notice signs with the content of keeping safe when climbing mountains, warning people not to light fires on the mountain to limit the risk of fire, not to litter... Warning signs will be placed from the foot of the mountain, along the way and on the top of the mountain so that everyone knows. In addition, the locality will strengthen its grasp of the local situation in this area to ensure more security and safety for people when unexpected incidents occur.
