Can Tho will have Medical Achievement Award

The Can Tho City Medical Achievement Award was launched in 2024, following the conclusion of Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee - at a working session with the Party Committee of the City People's Committee. The award aims to recognize, praise and honor outstanding individuals and collectives of the city's health sector in taking care of people's health. At the same time, it replicates good models, creative and effective ways of doing things in health activities.

Regarding the award structure, there will be awards for treatment applications, prevention applications, and management applications; including 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 14 consolation prizes. The first prize is worth 50 million VND and a certificate of merit from the People's Committee, cup, commemorative medal... The award is expected to be presented on the occasion of the anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day in 2025.

In the past year, according to the leaders of the Can Tho City Department of Health, the health sector has encountered many difficulties and obstacles that have affected the activities of grassroots health care as well as the activities of hospitals in the area. Among them, the difficulty is due to the price of medical services not being calculated correctly and sufficiently, leading to financial difficulties for health units in financial autonomy; difficulties in implementing slow bidding procedures for chemicals, supplies, and medicines; difficulties in purchasing and renting public assets in the health sector have affected medical examination and treatment activities.

However, Can Tho's health sector still has many outstanding activities and is a specialized medical unit, cooperating with Ho Chi Minh City's health sector to develop many specialized techniques in cardiovascular intervention, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, in vitro fertilization, high-tech cancer treatment... The city is the place to receive end-line treatment in many medical fields of the Southwest region.

To continue developing according to the planning orientation of the Mekong Delta health network of the Ministry of Health , Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong - Director of Can Tho Department of Health - said that in 2024, he will continue to vigorously implement 10 key tasks. In particular, focusing on projects to improve the quality of medical facilities; project to improve the quality of non-public health; strengthen health care for people in the city; project to establish 115 Emergency Center (under Can Tho General Hospital) and Family Doctor project.

In particular, the key task in 2024 is to focus on completing the bidding for chemicals, supplies and medical equipment of units and hospitals, in order to better serve the medical examination and treatment needs of Can Tho people and neighboring provinces. Advise the City People's Committee to submit to the People's Council to issue specific regulations on prices of medical examination and treatment services for State medical examination and treatment facilities according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health.

According to Mr. Cuong, the Department of Health will continue to coordinate with departments and branches to advise the City People's Committee to request central ministries and branches to guide and support in resolving difficulties and problems related to the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project (scale of 500 beds). At the same time, propose a plan to restart the Oncology Hospital project, because the old hospital is currently overloaded and seriously degraded...
