The awards are expected to be presented on the occasion of Vietnam Doctors' Day in 2025.
Over the past year, according to the leaders of the Can Tho City Department of Health, the health sector has faced numerous difficulties and obstacles affecting the operation of grassroots healthcare facilities as well as hospitals in the area. These difficulties include inaccurate and incomplete pricing of medical services, leading to financial constraints for healthcare units in achieving financial autonomy; delays in the bidding process for chemicals, supplies, and medicines; and difficulties in purchasing and leasing public assets in the healthcare sector, all of which have impacted medical examination and treatment activities.

The city is a leading center for tertiary treatment in many medical fields in the Southwest region.
To continue developing according to the Ministry of Health 's plan for the Mekong Delta regional health network, Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong, Director of the Can Tho Department of Health, stated that in 2024, they will continue to vigorously implement 10 key tasks. In particular, the central task in 2024 is to focus on completing the bidding process for chemicals, supplies, and medical equipment for units and hospitals, in order to better serve the healthcare needs of the people of Can Tho and neighboring provinces. The city will advise the People's Committee of Can Tho to submit to the People's Council for promulgation regulations on specific prices for medical examination and treatment services at state-owned medical facilities, following the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
According to Mr. Cuong, the Department of Health will continue to coordinate with other departments and agencies to advise the People's Committee of Can Tho City to request guidance and support from central ministries and agencies in resolving difficulties and obstacles related to the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project (500 beds).
