According to information from the Can Tho Department of Health, after the merger, the administrative block of the City Oncology Hospital was transferred to work at the headquarters of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Kieu district (old).
However, the hospital is still under pressure as the old hospital is degraded, cramped, and cannot effectively meet the needs of people for medical examination and treatment. Currently, the hospital is receiving about 500-600 patients/day for examination and treatment.
Director of Can Tho Department of Health Hoang Quoc Cuong said that the Government has agreed and approved the policy of using ODA capital from Hungary, and at the same time using domestic capital to restart the investment project to build Can Tho Oncology Hospital with a scale of 500 beds.
In addition, the city has merged the old Cai Rang District Medical Center and the old Phong Dien District Medical Center, headquartered in Cai Rang. Therefore, the Department of Health proposed to transfer the headquarters of the old Phong Dien District Medical Center from the Cai Rang Regional Medical Center to the Can Tho Oncology Hospital for management and use.
The above proposal has just been approved by the city leaders and this headquarters will be a place for general medical examination and treatment for local people and also a treatment place for Can Tho Oncology Hospital.
The project to build the new Can Tho City Oncology Hospital (500 beds) started in October 2017, with a total investment of about 1,727 billion VND, of which more than 80% is ODA capital from the Hungarian Government and about 334 billion VND is local counterpart capital. According to the original plan, the project was expected to be completed after 3 years, that is, by the end of 2020. However, until now, everything is still at a standstill.
