Although the Hoang Long River has begun to recede, thousands of houses in Ninh Binh remain submerged. Children are being sent to other places to continue their studies, while adults are clinging to small boats.
On the afternoon of September 13, in Kenh Ga village, Gia Thinh commune, Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh, 683 households (over 2,500 people) were still submerged in water. Over the past two days, the government and relevant agencies have distributed medicine, drinking water and necessities to households to help them cope with the flood situation.

This is the third time she has witnessed such a big flood, after 1985 and 2017. "We raised chickens in cages, the rain did not bring them in in time so they all washed away. The rice did not have time to be brought upstairs, it got wet, we had to dry it before cooking" Mrs. Thu shared. The main means of transportation is by boat. Photo: Tran Nghi In Kenh Ga, families with only one-story houses had to send their children to stay with siblings, relatives or family members living on the dike so that they could continue to go to school. Because the house has only one story, when the river water rose, the family of Nguyen Thi Huyen (38 years old, village 2) only had time to carry the refrigerator onto the boat. All of the family's assets, furniture and household items were submerged in the floodwaters. Dispensing medicine... ... and essential necessities for the people of Kenh Ga village. We have sent our children elsewhere to go to school, while my husband and I have been drifting on the boat. If the water rises too high, we have to move the boat to another place to take shelter,” Huyen shared. Not only Huyen’s family, but many other families in Kenh Ga also drift day and night on cement boats, or sleep at the homes of relatives and friends who have higher buildings. Mr. Mai and his wife live in an attic of only 5-6 square meters. At night I sleep with the children around me.” Ms. Tran Thi Thu has witnessed the Hoang Long River rising three times. Photo: Tran Nghi Ms. Huyen's family lives on a cement boat.
