Fraudsters use images and information similar to official sites to call on kind-hearted people to donate and transfer money to personal accounts for appropriation.
The Department of Information and Communications of Quang Ninh province recommends that people should be vigilant and not send donations to accounts of unknown origin. At the same time, it is promoting the sharing of warning information widely so that people can be vigilant. Detecting and reporting fake and fraudulent pages is also a way to contribute to protecting the community.
The Department also recommends that social networking sites do not provide false information about local storm and flood situations. Such acts will be strictly handled according to current legal regulations. Taking advantage of natural disasters and floods to commit fraud not only causes economic losses to people but also reduces the community's trust in legitimate charitable activities.
The Department of Information and Communications recommends that people protect themselves from fraudulent acts by: Carefully checking information about donation call accounts, prioritizing official sources; Sharing warning information with relatives and friends to raise awareness; Reporting to authorities when detecting Fanpages or personal accounts showing signs of fraud.
