Vietnamese sour fish soup appears on Taste Atlas charts

The culinary site Taste Atlas describes sour fish soup as a soup characterized by a combination of sweet, spicy and sour flavors.

Sour fish soup is often cooked with tamarind and accompanying vegetables such as pineapple, tomatoes, bean sprouts, okra as well as some other local vegetables in Vietnam.

And because of the sour taste from ingredients like tamarind, tomato or pineapple, this soup is called sour soup.

Also according to Taste Atlas, this soup often uses catfish or snakehead fish, carp to get the full sweetness of the fish.

Just before serving, the sour fish soup will be garnished with some herbs such as onions or coriander.

People often eat sour fish soup in the summer to dispel the heat and sultry summer.

Snakehead fish sour soup has harmonious, eye-catching colors, blending many ingredients cooked together.

It is the green of herbs, coriander, basil, the red of tomatoes, the yellow of pineapple, and the fragrant fried onions.

There is also the white color of bean sprouts, fish meat, and a bowl of thick, fragrant chili sauce. Just looking at it makes it taste delicious.

Sweet and sour flavors blend on the tip of the tongue, but sourness should be the dominant flavor, moderate sweetness, combined with the flavors of other spices, giving the eater a comfortable feeling.

Sour fish soup is a popular national dish found in all regions, however, the culinary culture of each region is different, so the way to cook sour snakehead fish soup is also different.

Therefore, in each different locality, sour fish soup is prepared in different ways and with different ingredients, showing the culinary characteristics of each region.

Depending on the region, there will be sour soup dishes cooked with different ingredients. The North has sour sour soup, the Central has sour star fruit soup, sour mussel soup.

In addition, sour fish soup also appeared in other rankings voted by Taste Atlas.

Specifically, this soup ranks 4th out of the 10 best fish soups in the world , 5th out of the 10 best seafood soups in the world, and 18th out of the 100 best dishes with fish as the main ingredient in the world.

The list of the 10 best fish soups in the world voted by Taste Atlas also includes Swedish Lohikeitto, Scottish Cullen Skink soup, Greek Psarosoupa soup, traditional Finnish Kalakeitto soup, Romanian Ciorbă de pește "ca-n Deltă" fish soup, and Norwegian Bergensk soup.
