On the morning of August 28, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with Alibaba.com (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. to organize a workshop on enhancing export capacity. Nearly 100 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hai Phong attended the workshop.
According to the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade, Hai Phong is one of the localities with the highest economic growth rate in the country for many consecutive years, with a synchronously developed system of seaports, railways, roads, and airways. In addition, the National Assembly passed Resolution No. 226/2025/QH15 on piloting a Free Trade Zone in Hai Phong, which is expected to create a great driving force for the city's import-export activities.
However, to effectively exploit opportunities from policies and markets, businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, need the ability to quickly adapt to new business models, in which cross-border e-commerce is one of the breakthrough directions.
Speaking at the conference, a representative of Alibaba.com said that the Alibaba.com platform currently has more than 50 million buyers from more than 200 countries and territories, with more than 47 million active buyers, spanning over 40 key industries. According to data from the platform, more than 80% of buyers on Alibaba.com are looking for new products, 62% want to change suppliers to reduce risks, which opens up great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses if they know how to exploit them in the right direction.
However, to be successful on the international e-commerce platform, businesses need to invest in building their brand, ensuring reliability, convenience in transactions and stable supply capacity.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Vu Thi Kim Phuong, in the coming time, the city will continue to accompany businesses in the process of digital transformation and digital export, through training, consulting activities, connecting with major e-commerce platforms, while promoting technical and financial support policies suitable for the characteristics of small and medium enterprises.
Thereby, gradually bringing Hai Phong's strong products from supporting industry, mechanics, electronics to handicrafts, processed agricultural products further on the global trade map.
