Targeting the psychology of wanting children to learn more life skills during the summer, scammers have created many websites to organize courses, competitions, and experiential courses... and at the same time, increase interactions to attract parents' attention. Accordingly, the subjects create fanpages and groups on Facebook with names related to experiential courses such as: "Military semester experience", "Military summer camp 2025", "Regular military summer camp 2025", "Learning to be a police officer", "Police semester"...
To increase credibility, the subjects used images and videos taken from official programs organized by the police or military, then posted them on fanpages or social networking groups. At the same time, they ran ads to reach parents, offering attractive invitations such as: experiencing the military environment, being provided with uniforms, certificates, training in discipline, survival skills, communication, teamwork, basic first aid, etc.
When parents register to participate in the program, the subjects send the application code along with the Zalo phone number of the so-called "consultant". After that, they are instructed to access Zalo to provide personal information. The subjects continue to ask parents to join the group on the Telegram application. Here, parents are gradually drawn into pre-prepared scam scenarios, with many sophisticated forms to appropriate assets.
In addition, taking advantage of the peak time before the entrance exam for the first grade, level, exam, and capacity assessment test at high schools, specialized schools, and universities, subjects impersonating local police officers, requesting parents to update their children's level 2 electronic identification with the reason of "urgently supplementing the application within the day", otherwise it will affect the students' right to take the exam or their future.
To gain the trust of parents, the subjects asked parents to make video calls; then, instructed parents to install fake “online public service” applications. During the process, the subjects collected and appropriated bank account information, credit cards, passwords, OTP codes and recorded biometric images to appropriate money in parents’ bank accounts.
The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (City Police) recommends that parents need to be extremely careful to prevent fraudulent activities related to skill courses and summer camps for students.
When there is a need to register their children to participate in extracurricular programs, parents should proactively contact the school, reputableeducational centers or clearly authenticated organizing units directly through official channels (phone number, website, office, etc.); registration should be done directly, if it is necessary to register online, it is necessary to carefully verify the information of the organizing unit; absolutely do not transfer money according to instructions from strangers online, via Zalo, Facebook or other messaging applications if the identity and purpose have not been clearly verified; do not provide personal information, bank account numbers, OTP codes or facial recognition images to anyone of unknown origin.
In case of property fraud, the victim should immediately report to the nearest police station for reception and guidance on how to handle the situation.
