Charity kitchen in the flood area of Tuong Duong

After the floodwaters receded, people in flooded communes still faced many difficulties. Houses were in disarray, property was lost, and daily meals became a concern as many households no longer had food or time to cook. In this situation, free kitchens voluntarily organized by the people themselves became a warm, bright spot, spreading love.

Since early morning, the small kitchen at Mr. Tran Van Duy's house in Hoa Nam block, Tuong Duong commune has been on fire. In an urgent atmosphere, he and more than a dozen people in the neighborhood are busy cooking rice, braising meat, and stir-frying vegetables to distribute for free to people in flooded areas. “My family was lucky not to be damaged in the recent flood. Seeing my neighbors struggling to clean up mud from morning to night, I couldn’t sit still. So I invited a few friends and neighbors to contribute rice, vegetables, and meat to cook. If anyone needs it, we are ready to serve,” said Tran Van Duy. Photo: Dinh Tuan

Realizing that this was a meaningful activity, many people volunteered to participate. They came from many different professions: teachers, traders, spa workers... but shared the same heart of sharing. People took advantage of their lunch break to cook food, package, and distribute each meal to the people. Photo: Dinh Tuan

Ms. Lo Thi Bua - a local market vendor confided: "I saw Mr. Duy organizing the kitchen, so I contributed a small part, as a way to share in times of trouble. As long as people have a hot, warm meal, I am happy." Photo: Dinh Tuan

The atmosphere in the kitchen is always bustling. Some people wash vegetables, some cut meat… everyone works together smoothly without needing to assign tasks. The sound of knives and chopping boards, the sound of laughter and chatter create a space full of love in the days after the flood. Photo: Dinh Tuan

Even though it is a temporary, field kitchen, the meals are still carefully prepared and full of nutrients: with green vegetables, braised meat, boiled eggs. In particular, food hygiene and safety are always put first. Photo: Dinh Tuan

Meals of love in the midst of the flood not only warm the stomach but also warm the heart. A bunch of vegetables, a pot of hot rice, a helping hand... are enough to kindle hope in the midst of difficult days. It is known that on the afternoon of July 26 alone, the kitchen at Duy's house cooked more than 200 free meals to distribute to people in the flooded areas. Photo: Dinh Tuan
