Ford, Imagine Studios, and the Petersen Automotive Museum are presenting American Icon: A Mustang Immersive Experience in Los Angeles, a 360-degree exhibition that traces 60 years of Mustang. The experience lasts approximately 45 minutes, ending with a five-minute 4D segment; general admission starts at approximately $34. After running in Los Angeles through January, the program will move to Miami for the F1 Grand Prix in May, then Dallas, with the possibility of expanding to other cities.

From 1964½ to GT3 Daytona: the Mustang story in digital light
The exhibition covers every aspect of the Mustang, from the early design stages to the 2025 Daytona-winning GT3 racer. The space opens with a minimalist white room where a 1964½ Mustang is displayed amid digital projections covering the walls and floor, transporting viewers back to the 1964 World's Fair when the Mustang first debuted to the public.
The story continues to take visitors to the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan, along the journey across the United States and all the way to the Venice Beach Boardwalk. The narrative is deliberately fast-paced and visually rich, helping viewers quickly grasp the milestones of the iconic pony car's development.
Dark Horse on turntable and motion sickness warning
The next space brings the viewer back to the present with a Mustang Dark Horse mounted on a rotating platform. The combination of the projection and the car’s movement creates a video game-like interactive effect. At times, the visual sense may be out of balance; if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to sit instead of standing.

Mustang GTD and other rare movie cars
Next door is a Mustang GTD display, before entering a small gallery with Mustangs featured on screen. Highlights include the 1967 “Eleanor” fastback from the Gone in 60 Seconds remake, the Red Mist from Kick-Ass, and the Barricade police car from 2007’s Transformers. A 1973 convertible from The Mary Tyler Moore Show is also on display.
Notably absent is the Bullitt Mustang, but visitors can see negatives from the film on the Mustang in pop culture wall, alongside posters from Bond to John Wick. The organizers have intentionally selected some lesser-known models; the lineup may vary by city. They've also contacted cars from Menace II Society and The Princess Diaries, and may make an appearance if they can arrange it.

4D Climax with Anthony "Captain America" Mackie
The finale is a 4D “sublimation” ride lasting about 5 minutes, with synchronized motion seats, accompanied by wind and mist effects. The action scene features Anthony “Captain America” Mackie, who is also a Mustang fan. As usual, the exit leads directly to the souvenir shop with many Mustang-branded items.
Location, schedule and travel recommendations
The exhibition is located in an industrial area on the edge of downtown Los Angeles, close to the LA River, where the Go Baby Go button in the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds and Greased Lightning vs. Hell's Chariot scene in Grease (1978) were set. From here, it's just a few bridges to the Artists' District, Little Tokyo, and Downtown. With good traffic, the trip to the Petersen Automotive Museum is under 30 minutes.
