According to Android Authority , leak expert Digital Chat Station has just posted a report on Twitter saying that veteran camera manufacturer Canon is looking to cooperate with smartphone manufacturers. However, there is no information about specific partners.
Canon could be the next camera maker to seek partnership with a smartphone maker
With Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and OnePlus already having camera-related partnerships in the past, names like Asus, Google, Honor, Huawei, Motorola, Realme, and Samsung are worth watching. However, Apple, Samsung, and Google are not the type of companies to pursue such collaborations, while Sony has its own camera division. So these companies seem to be excluded from the list of top candidates. Since Digital Chat Station is from China, it is likely that this involves a China-based company, such as Realme, Honor, or Huawei.
These partnerships often see the camera company contribute to image tuning, with some of the more ambitious deals also resulting in new software and hardware features (with lenses, for example). The results are mixed. For example, photos taken by OnePlus with the help of a Hasselblad-branded camera are disappointing in terms of color reproduction and quality in low light. On the other hand, the Leica camera experience on the Xiaomi 13 Pro is satisfying.
