On March 7, Military Hospital 175 ( Ministry of National Defense ) said that EC 225 helicopter number VN-8622 landed on the helipad on the roof of the Orthopedic Trauma Institute - Military Hospital 175 to promptly transport a fisherman with a stroke from Song Tu Tay Island, Truong Sa Island District, Khanh Hoa Province to the mainland for treatment.
Previously, at around 5:00 a.m. on March 5, male patient HB (71 years old, residing in Quang Nam) while fishing at sea suddenly fell down, then became paralyzed on the right side of his body, unable to communicate. Fishermen quickly took the patient to Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary at 8:50 p.m. the same day.
After being taken to the emergency room, the medical team on Song Tu Tay Island examined and consulted with the 108 Central Military Hospital and the 175 Military Hospital via phone.
Doctors determined that the patient had opened his eyes but no contact, Glasgow score of 10, complete paralysis of the right side of the body, muscle strength 0/5, accompanied by vomiting, uncontrolled high blood pressure, maximum blood pressure 170-180 mmHg, sometimes > 200 mmHg. The conclusion was that the patient had right-sided paralysis, suspected to be due to a stroke. Doctors urgently asked for advice from superiors and suggested bringing the patient to shore as soon as possible.
Immediately after receiving the order, the 18th Army Corps quickly dispatched EC 225 helicopter number VN-8622 to coordinate with the Air Rescue Team of Military Hospital 175 led by Senior Lieutenant, Doctor Ta Van Bach, departing from Tan Son Nhat airport.

Overcoming all difficulties, the flight landed safely on the roof of the Orthopedic Institute of Military Hospital 175 at 7:10 p.m. on March 6. The team of doctors and nurses urgently took the patient to the Emergency Center of Military Hospital 175.
Senior Lieutenant, Doctor Ta Van Bach said that during the transportation to the mainland, the patient had increased intracranial pressure, which caused many difficulties such as: the transportation time from Song Tu Tay Island - this is the island with the farthest distance in Truong Sa archipelago to the mainland, takes about 4-5 hours; after boarding the helicopter, the intracranial pressure will increase, making the condition worse, so we need to coordinate with the flight crew to fly as low as possible, thus slowing down the return flight time.
"There were times when the patient's blood pressure was very high, we had to use intravenous medication to lower the blood pressure," Dr. Ta Van Bach informed, adding that the patient's condition is now stable, and the medical team is implementing appropriate treatment regimens for the patient.
