Huong Khe is the hottest in Ha Tinh with outdoor temperatures reaching 42 degrees Celsius at times. With the increasing load demand, the specialized sector is making efforts to provide safe and stable electricity to serve the daily life, production and business of people and businesses.
Huong Khe is an area with extreme weather in the summer. Usually, the mornings and noons are hot, the outdoor temperature sometimes reaches 42 degrees Celsius, but in the afternoon, thunderstorms often appear, greatly affecting the operation of the power grid.
Recently, due to the impact of storms, the main power line from Ho Ho Hydropower Plant (Huong Khe) to the 110 kV transformer stations suffered an electrical discharge. Immediately, Huong Khe Power Company mobilized dozens of workers and cranes to go directly to the scene to handle the situation overnight, and it took until 3 a.m. to restore the original state. If the specialized sector does not detect and fix it in time, it will disrupt the power supply from Ho Ho Hydropower Plant for a long time.
Recently, due to the impact of storms, the main power line from Ho Ho Hydropower Plant (Huong Khe) to 110 kV transformer stations suffered an electrical discharge incident.
Next, through internal inspection of the transformer, at Huong Do bridge transformer station (Huong Do commune), electricity workers discovered that the resistance of the coils was off, the risk of transformer failure was very high. Accordingly, the working group urgently deployed solutions to put the transformer back into safe operation, serving the daily needs of the people as well as meeting irrigation needs for hundreds of hectares of oranges, lemons, and grapefruits during the hot season.
These are two of many situations that Huong Khe Power Company has detected and promptly handled during the recent hot days, preventing unfortunate grid incidents that disrupted power supply on a large scale.
Huong Khe Power workers handle an incident at Huong Do bridge transformer station (Huong Do commune).
Directly participating in and directing the handling of incidents at the above locations, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Duong - Head of the Huong Khe Power Operation Management Team shared: "The severe heat and the long power grid are obstacles for officers and workers working on the grid. However, each member strives to work through lunch, even through the night to quickly fix the problems, and soon restore power to people for daily life, production and business. Currently, 72% of Huong Khe district's power load serves people's daily life, so the risk of incidents when electricity demand suddenly increases is always present. Workers take turns to increase inspections day and night, promptly detect unusual situations to have a solution, ensuring safety for the power grid system".
Mr. Pham Luong Trung - Director of Huong Khe Power Company said: "The unit is currently managing and operating nearly 379 km of medium voltage lines, over 749 km of low voltage lines and 284 transformer stations (excluding intermediate transformer stations). Huong Khe district's power grid runs through mountainous areas, complex terrain, many areas where people grow cajuput trees encroaching on the power grid corridor, plus the long power supply radius, so the risk of incidents is always present, especially during the current intense heat."
Huong Khe power grid runs through mountains and forests, complex terrain so the risk of incidents is always present.
Also through monitoring the operating parameters on the power grid in May and June, it can be seen that the Huong Khe town area and the towns of Huong Trach, Phuc Trach, Gia Pho, Phuc Dong, Loc Yen communes... have seen a very high increase in electricity load, especially during peak hours at noon from 11am to 2pm and peak hours at night from 10pm to 3am. To minimize the risk of incidents, electricity workers have closely monitored the load status of electrical equipment and have promptly shared the capacity of 9 transformers in the areas. In particular, Huong Khe Power Company has been "immersing" 6 more transformer stations in Gia Pho, Huong Binh, Phuc Trach, Ha Linh, Huong Xuan communes and Huong Khe town with the goal of minimizing power loss and improving power supply capacity.
In addition, the unit is focusing on implementing major repair projects, replacing 6 km of low-voltage lines in Ha Linh commune, replacing 10 km of low-voltage lines in Phuc Trach commune with a total investment of billions of VND. At the same time, the project to build and renovate medium-voltage and low-voltage lines and transformer stations to prevent overload, reduce power loss, and reduce the power supply radius in Huong Khe district in 2023 with a total investment of 7.9 billion VND has completed about 90% of the volume. Currently, the electricity industry is urgently implementing to soon energize 100% of the project volume.
It is known that Huong Khe district's power grid is supplied by the main power source E18.8 from the 110 kV Huong Khe station. During the period of extreme heat, under the direction of Ha Tinh Electricity Company, Huong Khe Electricity has been proactive and flexible in terms of power supply by linking with Ho Ho Hydropower Plant to generate electricity during peak hours and other hours to reduce capacity for the regional power grid system.
Huong Khe Power Company increases night inspections, especially during peak hours from 10pm to 2am, to promptly detect and handle unusual situations.
“In the coming time, the heat wave will continue to increase in intensity, in which Huong Khe district will continue to be affected by high temperatures, leading to a sudden increase in electricity demand. To reduce the load on the grid and avoid the risk of incidents, the industry recommends that customers continue to join hands to save electricity with practical actions every day such as: turning off electrical equipment when not in use; using energy-saving devices; using LED bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs; limiting electricity use during peak hours at noon and in the evening; only turning on the air conditioner when necessary and just enough for use (from 26 degrees Celsius or higher and used in combination with a fan); should not use many high-capacity electrical equipment at the same time" - Director of Huong Khe Electricity Pham Luong Trung recommended.
