Under the scorching sun, with outdoor temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius, workers on the Long Bien Bridge repair site are still working diligently to complete the final repair items. At this point, most items such as the bridge deck and the upgrading of the railing system have been basically completed, and the construction unit is focusing on technical review and completing the final stages. Workers from Hai Ha Railway Joint Stock Company are maintaining the railway system on Long Bien Bridge.
Many improvements, such as treating and reinforcing the foundation structure and resurfacing the concrete, have given the historic bridge a new look. The railings, bridge railings, and drainage ditches on the road section have also been repaired and completed simultaneously. The biggest challenge during the repair process was the cramped construction site, which prevented large vehicles from accessing the area. This forced the contractor to divide into four work teams, organized into many small groups to carry out the work. This repair work on Long Bien Bridge is also a preparatory step for a comprehensive renovation of the bridge in the future. The early reopening of Long Bien Bridge is expected to help alleviate traffic pressure on Chuong Duong Bridge and meet the transportation needs of people on both sides of the Red River. The Long Bien Bridge is expected to reopen to traffic on May 27th.
