How is Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction going?

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, as of March 3, at the bidding packages of the Mieu 2 bridge project, contractors had mobilized 26 construction teams to the construction site.

Of which, there are 10 road construction sites and 16 bridge construction sites with more than 343 workers and 104 construction machines and equipment working busily on the site.

Previously, on the evening of March 1, contractor Trung Nam completed the first concrete pouring of the P20 pier cross beam, on the Thoi Son sandbank. This is an important item to continue construction of the next sections of the main pier of this cable-stayed bridge.

The main cable-stayed bridge (package XL-02) has completed 4/4 of the pier bases. The contractor is working on section K14, out of a total of 32 towers. The pier body has also been completed with two anchor pillars on both sides.

The approach road to the bridge on both sides of Tien Giang and Ben Tre has been constructed for 13/16.7km, the remaining 3.7km has not been handed over yet. The contractors have completed organic excavation, geotextile, and K95 sand filling on the entire handed over area of ​​nearly 11/12.87km.

At the same time, the drainage system has completed 4/38 culverts, the remaining culverts are waiting for weak ground treatment.

Package XL-02 for main bridge construction has completed 4/4 pier bases, is working on K14/K32 tower pier segments and completed 2/2 anchor pier bodies.

On March 1, Trung Nam contractor poured the first batch of concrete for the cross beam of the main pillar P20 - one of the two main cable-stayed pillars of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge.

To facilitate the construction process, My Thuan Project Management Board has approved the plan to use waterway concrete, pumping concrete directly from barges moored under the bridge piers to the overhead crossbeams. This helps speed up the construction process and increase labor productivity.

In the XL-01 package for the construction of the Xoai Hot approach road and bridge, although the locality has made efforts to hand over the site, there are still 700m of weak soil that have not been handed over. The reason is that households affected by the project have not received compensation and are complaining about the price. The locality strives to hand over the site as soon as possible in March 2024.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project, up to now, has had a total output value of contracts under construction reaching 1,302/3,303 billion VND. Accumulated in the first 2 months of 2024, more than 87.72/900 billion VND, reaching 9.8% of the plan.

The cross beam of tower P19 is installing steel structure. According to plan, the first batch of concrete will be poured on March 6-8, the second batch will be poured on March 18-20, and the tensioning and grouting will be completed on March 31.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project, the locality has handed over the site for more than 16/17.6km (91%) of the entire route. Of which, Ben Tre has handed over 9.3/9.65km (95%), Tien Giang has handed over 6.66/7.95km (84%).

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project has a total investment of 5,200 billion VND, connecting Tien Giang with Ben Tre, starting in March 2022, expected to be completed after 3 years. However, the site clearance work is currently facing many difficulties, with costs increasing by more than 1,600 billion VND. The project is 17.6 km long, the bridge section is nearly 2 km long, 21.5 m wide, 4 lanes, and a designed speed of 80 km/h. The project is nearly 4 km upstream from the existing Rach Mieu Bridge. The starting point of the project is at Dong Tam intersection (intersection of National Highway 1 with Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province; the end point is on National Highway 60, near Ham Luong Bridge in Ben Tre.
