These "pyramid" are 5,500 years old. This is the second time experts have discovered this type of structure in the area, the first time being in 2009. Photo: Zespół Parków Krajobrazowych Województwa Wielkopolskiego.

According to researchers, the "pyramid" in Poland was created by the Funnelbeaker culture in the 4th millennium BC. Funnelbeaker was a Neolithic society famous for its massive burial structures. Photo: Einsamer Schütze/CC BY-SA 4.0.

The two newly discovered “pyramid” structures in Poland are long, large mounds built in a distinctive trapezoid shape, which can be up to 200m long and up to 4m high. The front of each mound is significantly wider and higher than the base, forming a triangular shape. This has earned the structures the nickname “pyramid”. The “pyramid” is considered a remarkable achievement of Neolithic technology. Because these tombs were built with giant blocks of stone, some of which weighed up to 10 tons. These stones were transported over long distances using primitive tools and collective labor. Photo: MOs810 / CC BY-SA 4.0.

Typically, inside each grave, a skeleton was placed in a supine position, with its legs pointing east, toward the rising sun. This burial method suggests that the ancients practiced sun worship and the concepts of rebirth that were common in early agricultural societies. Although no human remains have been found at the newly excavated sites, archaeologists are optimistic that offerings may still be buried nearby while the bodies are completely decomposed. Photo: Einsamer Schütze via Wikimedia Commons.
