Without noise or gimmicks, programs like Haha Family, Our House Has Each Other or Going Home to Get Rich are gradually winning the hearts of audiences thanks to their simplicity, authenticity and close emotions.
The rise of "healing game shows"
As one of the hottest programs in the "healing game show" genre, Haha Family quickly made its mark. The program brought five artists Jun Pham, Rhymastic, Bui Cong Nam, Ngoc Thanh Tam and Duy Khanh to experience rural life for 7 days in rural areas such as Ban Lien ( Lao Cai ), Quang Ngai.
They work together, cook, take care of pets, live like locals, and even teach the host to use TikTok to create a genuine connection between artists and locals.

"Haha Family" creates a fever among a series of music game shows.
The appeal of Haha Family comes not only from its simple content but also from its carefully invested visuals. Each episode features dozens of constantly changing camera angles, capturing the pure, peaceful natural beauty of the highlands. The scenes are like gentle cinematic footage, touching the viewer's emotions. What's special is that the show doesn't try to create dramatic situations.
It is not an exaggeration when many viewers call Haha Family "spiritual medicine", a true "healing show" in today's noisy life.
After only a few episodes, Haha Family entered the YouTube trending list, with each episode reaching over 1 million views. The effect spread so much that since mid-June, many young people have come to Ban Lien for tourism . In particular, the homestay of Ms. Thong - the owner who appeared on the show had to announce that she would stop accepting more guests due to overloaded booking schedules.

"Our House Has Each Other" by Lam Vy Da and her husband also brought many emotions.
Also following the “healing” direction, the program Nha Minh Co Nhau has brought touching stories about the family relationships of famous artists. Childhood memories with busy parents of Hua Minh Dat, Lam Vy Da, musician Nguyen Hai Phong or Hoang Bach were told truthfully, touching on the deep aspects of family affection.
Not only is it a place for artists to open their hearts, the program also helps viewers reflect on their own family relationships, creating warmth and closeness. In an era where adults are increasingly busy and children are increasingly lonely, Our House Has Each Other is a gentle reminder of family bonds.
Similarly, Going Home to Get Rich - a reality show that exploits regional products is also a new approach, with cleareducational and social values. The program not only promotes local cultural identity but also combines technology, applying AI to build supply chains, increasing income for people.
Is it becoming a sustainable trend?
Despite creating positive effects, rural programs still face many challenges. Many viewers commented that the content of some shows is “one-dimensional” and lacks depth, as they only focus on rural images without delving into the identity of each region.
Some participating artists lack knowledge of local culture, leading to mixed reactions from the audience. On the other hand, compared to current fast, concise, and humorous entertainment game shows, rural shows have a harder time reaching many audience segments, and are also less competitive in terms of media market share.
Many programs have pursued this direction but could not sustain it for long. In 2010, the program Lu Khach 24h made a splash when it debuted on HTV7. However, in 2024, this game show returned to YouTube but only released 12 episodes before stopping.
The first survival show, which aired in 2023, will also meet the same fate. Or the show Bounty Hunter, which ended its first season in March this year, and there is currently no announcement whether it will continue or not.
In reality, rural programs are often difficult to develop in the long term. Production costs are high, media effects are not great, sponsors are not interested, and producers easily run out of ideas after a few seasons of broadcasting.
Realizing this, the Haha Family team once said that they are still trying to expand the program into an ecosystem. One of the new directions is to build a "rural dictionary" through folk tips, indigenous knowledge and the online fan community "Hehe Village" to create a playground for long-term interaction with the audience.

"Haha Family" is opening a new milestone for healing game shows.
Despite many difficulties, it cannot be denied that game shows with a “healing” color are a special highlight on television. Without noise, without scandal, programs such as Haha Family, Our House Has Each Other, Going Back to the Countryside to Get Rich open up a different space – where people connect with each other with sincerity, where the audience can slow down, listen more and feel more deeply.
Is this just a passing fad or can it become a sustainable trend? The answer is still open. But clearly, in a world full of turmoil, the need to be “healed” by gentle, emotional programs is real.
If we know how to effectively utilize our content strengths, diversify our approaches and invest in the long term, programs with a rural feel, associated with human values and Vietnamese cultural identity, can completely affirm their own position on the reality TV map.
