The nutritional content of Vietnamese bird's nest is equivalent to similar products in Malaysia and Thailand.
Scientists from the Southern Animal Husbandry Institute (Animal Husbandry Institute) have just announced the results of a study on bird nests raised in Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc. According to statistics from the Department of Animal Husbandry, the country currently has over 22,000 bird nest houses, with an estimated output of 150 tons/year. Of which, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc are two provinces in the Southeast region with a fairly rapid growth rate of bird nest houses. However, there has not been any research to evaluate the productivity and quality of raw bird nests in bird nest houses.
A research report on birdhouses in the two provinces of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc shows that the average raw bird's nest output per year of birdhouses in Binh Duong is 23.46 kg/birdhouse/year and in Binh Phuoc it is 19.53 kg/birdhouse/year. The main reason is that birdhouses in Binh Duong have a larger average area than birdhouses in Binh Phuoc.
Regarding the nutritional content of bird's nests, the analysis results show that bird's nests in bird's nest houses in Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc have a dry matter ratio of 84.65%, protein of 57.56%, carbohydrate of 22.81% and total fat of 0.56%. Comparing with the results of nutritional analysis of bird's nests raised in Malaysia and Thailand, the average chemical composition of raw bird's nests (including dry matter, protein, fat, carbohydrate) is equivalent to the quality of bird's nests in Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc. This confirms that the quality of Vietnamese bird's nests is not inferior to that of other countries in the region.
The Vietnamese bird's nest industry has many opportunities for development and the potential to bring in very high economic value, especially after the Protocol on exporting bird's nests to China was signed. China's official permission to import bird's nest products from Vietnam will create great opportunities for the bird's nest farming and bird's nest production and processing industry in Vietnam.
