On April 15th, the Binh Chanh District Police (Ho Chi Minh City) are investigating a fire at a scrap yard in the area, suspected to have been caused by burning trash.
Later that afternoon, residents noticed a fire in an empty plot of land near Khuat Van Buc Street (Tan Kien commune, Binh Chanh district) and raised the alarm. People used fire extinguishers and water to put out the fire, but without success.
In an area with tall, dry grass and hot weather, the fire spread rapidly, approaching residential houses along Khuat Van Buc street.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team of Binh Chanh District Police dispatched vehicles and officers to the scene. By then, the fire had spread to a scrap yard spanning hundreds of square meters, burning fiercely.
Thick black smoke billowed from the fire, engulfing the entire area. Authorities deployed multiple teams to approach the blaze and prevent its spread. A section of Khuat Van Buc street passing through the fire area was temporarily blocked, and vehicles traveling through the area were instructed to find alternative routes.
Around 3 PM that same day, authorities finally brought the fire under control. However, they had to bring in an excavator to clear away the debris from the fire in order to spray water to cool the area.
The fire destroyed much of the property inside the scrap yard. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Preliminary findings suggest the cause was likely arson, which spread to burning trash.
