According to initial information, at around 7:00 AM on May 25th, residents discovered a fire breaking out in the acacia forest area bordering the two communes of Quang Ninh and Ninh Chau. Immediately afterwards, the People's Committee of Ninh Chau commune, in coordination with the Dong Hoi and coastal protection forest management board of Quang Tri province, mobilized more than 300 people along with police, military , forest rangers, and border guards to participate in extinguishing the fire.

However, firefighting efforts faced numerous difficulties due to the scorching weather exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and strong southwest winds, which caused the flames to spread rapidly over a wide area. The thick, dry vegetation, especially the layer of shrubs on sandy soil, further intensified the fire.
The terrain in the fire-affected area is complex, with fires breaking out in multiple locations, while the water source for firefighting is far away, making water replenishment time-consuming. Many forces have to use manual methods to create firebreaks to limit the spread of the fire.
By late afternoon, authorities were still implementing various measures to completely control the fire and prevent the risk of it reigniting.
Initial assessments indicate that the fire destroyed approximately 200 hectares of natural and planted forest. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.
