"Running" to stage art performances for students on November 20th

To win prizes in the art performance competition to celebrate November 20, many parents of the classes spared no expense, spending a lot of money on the art performances, from hiring stagers, renting costumes, performance props to makeup, hairdressing...

On the eve of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), many schools across the country organized art performances to celebrate. Many schools also organized art competitions between classes and grades. In order to win high prizes, many parents of the classes spared no expense, spending a lot of money on art performances, from hiring stagers, renting costumes, performance props...

Ms. Hoang Thi Thu (34 years old, Ha Dong, Hanoi) has been working in art program staging for many years. As a music teacher at an elementary school in Hanoi, her main source of income comes from choreographing and staging art performances.

Every year, when the 20/11 "season" comes, she is "busy as hell", from choreographing performances for classes at school to performing arts for districts and towns... Because the performances she choreographs and stages often win high awards.

According to Ms. Thu, for the past month, her schedule has been full of staging jobs all day, every day of the week. There are so many places inviting her to stage that she can't handle it all, so she also takes on jobs for her "juniors" in the same profession.

The cost of staging and choreography for each performance will range from several million to several tens of millions of VND (not including costume and prop rental), depending on the difficulty of each performance.

"Sometimes I feel too busy to take care of my family and children, so I want to give up and not take on more, but then I think there are only a few times a year that I have to continuously organize like this. November 20 is also the time when many schools and classes need me, and this is also one of my main sources of income, so I have to try to arrange it," Ms. Thu shared.

Similar to Ms. Thu, Ms. Thuy Ha (35 years old, Cau Giay, Hanoi ) has also been "overworked" in recent days. In addition to her office work, Ms. Ha takes the time in the afternoon to organize art performances for the school's classes.

"As November 20th is coming, all classes and schools need to hire choreographers to stage performances because almost every school organizes a program to celebrate this holiday. Classes and groups compete in art performances with each other, and any class that wants to have a good performance and win a prize will definitely have to hire a choreographer. This time, I also accepted 3 performances, each performance costs from 5-10 million VND depending on the requirements of the classes," said Ms. Ha.

Reluctantly returned to the profession because the girls' class could not hire a choreographer.

Ms. Mai (33 years old, Hanoi) said that in the past 2 weeks, she had to reluctantly return to her old job because her daughter's class could not hire a choreographer. Although she was busy with work at the office and her young children, she still had to spend about 2 hours every afternoon and evening to go to school to choreograph a performance for her daughter's class.

As a former junior high school music teacher, staging performances was a regular task for Ms. Mai. At that time, Ms. Mai also helped her school win a district-level award. However, she has quit her job and pursued a career in communications for nearly ten years now, so she did not think she would have to return to the profession in this reluctant way.

"My daughter started primary school last August. On November 20, her school organized a performance competition between grades. The class's parents' committee agreed to hire a choreographer and stager for 5 million VND/performance, but after only one practice session, the teacher got sick. Time was tight and the class couldn't find anyone else, so I had to step in and help stage the performance for the class," said Ms. Mai.

"The children are only in first grade, so their ability to concentrate and follow instructions cannot be as fast as older children. Luckily, after 2 weeks, the children's performance took shape. Seeing them dance and sing, I also feel happy," Ms. Mai confided.

According to the reporter's investigation, before November 20, many costume rental shops also had a chance to "do well". Many shop owners said that customers who rent costumes have continuously come or called in recent days. Sometimes the number of customers is too much, overlapping, forcing shop owners to postpone, making appointments for customers next year.
