Chelsea became the first team to reach the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a convincing 2-0 win over Fluminense at MetLife Stadium (USA). This result also ended the journey of the South American representative at the tournament.
Despite enjoying an 11-game unbeaten streak, Fluminense were unable to withstand the pressure from the Premier League side. In the first half, Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez were denied by the opponents' solid defence.
However, the Tricolor could not prevent Chelsea's opening goal in the 18th minute. Pedro Neto's cross from the left wing found Joao Pedro on the edge of the penalty area. In his first appearance for the Blues, the former Fluminense player fired a beautiful shot past goalkeeper Fabio to open the scoring.

Enzo Maresca's side continued to press and almost doubled their lead through Malo Gusto's header. However, Fluminense created the clearest chance of the half when Hercules broke into the box, beat Robert Sanchez but was cleared off the line by Cucurella.
Chelsea continued to live in fear when a free-kick in the box hit Trevor Chalobah's arm. Referee François Letexier initially awarded a penalty, but after consulting VAR, he reversed his decision, judging that Chalobah's arm was in a natural position. Neto and Christopher Nkunku had further chances late in the half, but Chelsea could not add a second goal before the break.
In the second half, Chelsea continued to search for the decisive goal with long-range shots from Moises Caicedo and Cucurella. Meanwhile, Renato Gaucho's side also showed their danger on the counter-attack, with substitute Everaldo forcing Sanchez to make his first save of the half.
However, it was the Brazilians who were the victims of a masterful counter-attack in the 55th minute. Cole Palmer made a successful save in his own half before Fernandez took over and passed the ball up to Joao Pedro, who charged into the box and fired a powerful shot off the crossbar into the net to make it 2-0.

Fluminense have scored half of their goals at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the final 20 minutes, which perhaps prompted Lima to try their luck from distance in the 71st minute after the Brazilian side escaped a goal down through chances from Nkunku and Gusto.
Substitute Nicolas Jackson missed a couple of chances to seal the win, while Fluzao failed to create enough to test Sanchez in the closing stages as the score remained 2-0. It was the second time in three years that the Brazilians have been knocked out of the FIFA Club World Cup by an English side. Chelsea, meanwhile, will be aiming for their second global trophy, facing either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
