Chelsea wants to make a 'blockbuster' of 80 million euros

Chelsea are stepping up negotiations to sign attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, with the deal likely to be completed for €80m.

According to Bild , Chelsea are in active negotiations with RB Leipzig to sign one of Europe's brightest young midfielders. Discussions between Chelsea and Simons' representatives are taking place this week, with the aim of reaching a personal agreement before moving on to formal terms.

Leipzig, who paid €50m (plus €30m in potential add-ons) to sign Simons from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in January 2025, are willing to sell him for €80m.

Simons, who is contracted to Leipzig until 2027, expressed his desire to leave the club in May, after the German club failed to qualify for Europe in the 2025/26 season. With 11 goals and eight assists in 33 Bundesliga games last season, Simons is highly regarded for his versatility as an attacking midfielder or winger.

He scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in his only season at PSV Eindhoven (2022/23), confirming his potential to become a big star. Chelsea, under coach Enzo Maresca, see Simons as an ideal piece to enhance the creativity of the attack, especially after saying goodbye to Noni Madueke (transferred to Arsenal), Sancho and Joao Felix this summer.

In addition to Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have also been linked with Simons, but the Blues are winning because of their willingness to spend big. The Dutch star himself also prioritizes a move to the Premier League.
