American voters' decisions have changed dramatically over the past 8 years.

CNN polls from 2016, 2020 and 2024 show that the gloomy economy negatively affected Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, while she also did not gain the support of women as the two previous Democratic candidates, Mr. Joe Biden and Ms. Hillary Clinton, despite supporting abortion rights. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump still maintained his advantage among male voters.

Among Latino voters, Latino men overwhelmingly supported Trump for the first time, while Latino women still supported Harris but at a lower rate than Biden and Clinton.

As for white voters andthe education gap, white voters without a college degree continue to be Mr. Trump’s loyal support group. Meanwhile, Ms. Harris has an advantage among white voters with college degrees, especially women with college degrees, by a margin of 20 points.

Ms. Harris also lost some support from voters of color at different levels of education.

Kamala Harris will speak later today.

Kamala Harris' campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond told supporters that the vice president is scheduled to speak on the evening of November 6 (US time).

In a brief speech to hundreds of supporters still on the Howard University campus, Mr Richmond said there were still “votes to count” and the campaign was committed to ensuring “every vote is counted”.

US general election officially ends

On November 6, voting in the US general election ended, with the last polling station closing in Adak (Southern Alaska) in the Aleutian Islands, the westernmost settlement in the US with a population of about 150 people.

Fox News predicts that the Republican Party will win at least 51 seats in the US Senate, giving them control of this body.

In the House of Representatives, the Democrats currently have 150 seats and the Republicans 182, with one party needing to win 218 seats to gain a majority.

In total, more than 124 million people voted in the election.

The November 5 general election in the United States will elect a president and vice president, 33 senators, 435 members of the House of Representatives, 13 state and territorial governors, and representatives of local governments.

Donald Trump: This moment will “heal” the country

Republican candidate Donald Trump is now speaking to a group of supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, after preliminary vote counts showed he had won the election.

Mr Trump told supporters that the moment would “help this country heal”, and promised the American people - “every day I will fight for you”.

On stage, surrounded by family and allies, Mr. Trump declared that he would usher in “a golden age of America.”

Republicans regain control of the Senate

As of 12 noon (Vietnam time), the Republicans had won at least 51 votes, officially becoming the majority party in the legislature, taking control of the Senate from the Democrats.

The newly elected senators will be sworn in early January 2025, before the inauguration of the 47th president-elect of the United States on January 20, 2025.

Republicans are also leading the race in the House of Representatives, with 169 of the 435 seats, while Democrats have won 124 seats.

Red dominates the electoral map, Mr. Trump reaches 270

At noon on November 6, Vietnam time, red (the symbol of the Republican Party) dominated the US election map when presidential candidate Donald Trump won convincingly against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in most battleground states.

According to Fox News, as of 1:15 p.m., with nearly 90% of the votes counted in the four battleground states of Georgia (16 electoral votes), North Carolina (16), Wisconsin (10), and Pennsylvania (19), Mr. Trump has won 61 electoral votes, bringing the total number of electoral votes to 277.

That number surpasses the 270 electoral votes needed to win the 2024 White House race.

The results of counting more than 60% of the votes in Michigan (15) also show that Mr. Trump is far ahead of Ms. Harris by a safe distance of 52.1% - 46.1%.

In Arizona (11) and Nevada (6), the two final battleground states, Mr. Trump is also leading.

Meanwhile, Ms. Harris only won in Minnesota with 10 electoral votes, bringing the total number of electoral votes for the Democratic candidate to 226 votes.

Donald Trump wins in 3 battleground states

According to CNN 's forecast, Kamala Harris's paths to victory have narrowed.

Trump's advantage is increasing in the race for 270 electoral votes. CNN predicts that Donald Trump will win the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, narrowing Kamala Harris' chances of winning.

Both Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris need at least 270 electoral votes to win the presidential election.

Voting continues in other key states, including battleground states like Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada. Meanwhile, Republicans are poised to take control of the Senate, shifting the balance of power in Washington.

Harris's chances are narrowed but not yet closed.

For now, Ms. Harris can still make a comeback through the Northern battleground states, but the vote count map shows the situation is getting more difficult.

The Democratic candidate's support team has said her surest path to 270 electoral votes is through Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - battleground states that Mr Trump won in 2016 and President Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020.

However, the vote count in Pennsylvania shows the advantage leaning towards the Republican candidate.

Losing a piece of the “blue wall” doesn’t necessarily close the path to the White House. If she loses Michigan, she can make up for it by winning Arizona and Nevada; or if she loses Wisconsin, she can make up for it by winning Arizona.

Trump takes revenge in Georgia

Former President Donald Trump continues to win in the important state of Georgia, adding 16 electoral votes.

Georgia helped Democratic President Joe Biden win in 2020. It was also the first time the state had turned blue in nearly 30 years.

Georgia became the focus of US politics after the 2020 presidential election, when Mr. Trump called on state officials to "find" enough votes to overturn the situation.

The former president and several of his advisers have been indicted for trying to overturn Georgia's election defeat four years ago.

Former President Donald Trump has won the crucial battleground state of North Carolina with 16 electoral votes and is inching closer to the 270-vote mark to return to the White House.

In 2020, Mr. Trump won this state by a narrow margin.

In 2008, Democratic candidate Barack Obama won North Carolina, and Republicans have won narrowly in every election since.

Harris' team stays optimistic

In an email to staff, Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon, said she did not expect a quick result and remained optimistic that the Democratic candidate had a good chance of winning.

Ms. Jen O'Malley Dillon emphasized the "Blue Wall" area including Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, which are considered battleground states that can help Ms. Harris win, instead of "Sun Belt" states like Arizona.

Vice President Harris' campaign manager added that all votes need time to be counted and the results will not be final until early tomorrow morning.

“This is something we’ve been preparing for a long time, so let’s finish what we have left today, get some rest and be ready to finish strong tomorrow,” Dillon told her team.

Ms. Harris won a "huge" number of votes in California

Vice President Kamala Harris is predicted to win California, the state with the largest number of electoral votes in the US with 54 votes.

This important victory helped the Democratic candidate shorten the gap with his Republican opponent Donald Trump.

Milwaukee vote counting problems

The city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, counted more than 63,000 of about 107,000 absentee ballots, after a technical error occurred in the ballot counting machine and required a recount of about 30,000 ballots.

City spokesman Jeff Fleming stressed that Milwaukee is forced to recount all 30,000 ballots and refused to share a specific time frame for completing the full count.

The incident has left Republicans concerned and demanding a response from Milwaukee. Accordingly, Senator Ron Johnson and Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Brian Schimming went to the Milwaukee counting center to monitor and talk with city officials.

Expressing concerns about the validity of the vote count, Mr. Johnson stressed: “This is a battleground state that is probably the most important in the election and once again, this is really sloppy.”

Trump accumulates advantages in small states

According to CNN 's forecast, former Republican President Donald Trump will win in Montana (4 electoral votes), Utah (6), Louisiana (8).

However, in the 2020 election, although Mr. Trump won in all three states, Democrat Joe Biden still won overall.

Bomb threats in battleground states

In Pennsylvania, the polling station at the government building in West Chester was evacuated due to a bomb threat. Josh Maxwell, chairman of the Chester County Board of Elections, said the building is being inspected by dogs and will reopen if there are no irregularities.

In Michigan and Georgia, bomb threats at some polling places delayed voting as security officials evacuated. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said 12 polling places had extended hours due to bomb threats.

The FBI said the threats appeared to originate from overseas email domains, but none of them were credible.

Navajo County in Arizona also received bomb threats at four locations.

A Georgia county must delay reporting results

Gwinnett County, located in the key battleground state of Georgia, had received a total of 322,000 ballots before Election Day, including both in-person and mail-in ballots, with about 96,000 in-person ballots as of 6:30 p.m. local time. The final number could be even higher.

Although 80-90% of precincts have results, Gwinnett County cannot release results until the certification of the vote is complete.

Local officials had hoped to release the bulk of the early votes by 8:30 p.m., but that appears to have been delayed further.

There are about 1.5 million unprocessed ballots statewide, according to Gabriel Sterling, chief operating officer of the Georgia Secretary of State's Office.

US prepares to deal with post-election threats

The Biden administration is on high alert for attempts by foreign powers to interfere or destabilize the transition period after the 2024 presidential election.

The Pentagon is preparing for “a range of scenarios” that could occur between the November 5 election and the inauguration of the next president on January 20, 2025, a senior defense official said on condition of anonymity.

A US military official said the upcoming transition period is considered particularly risky, as it takes place in a context of great instability in the world , including two major conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Republicans win major victory in Senate

On November 5, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a Republican, won the race for the state's Senate seat.

Mr. Justice's victory is particularly important for Republicans' efforts to gain control of the upcoming 119th Senate.

Currently, the Democratic Party holds a slim 51-49 majority. Therefore, in this election, the Republican Party only needs to win at least 2 more Senate seats to gain a majority in the powerful US legislative body.

Ms. Harris wins in Democratic stronghold

Currently, Ms. Harris owns 95 electoral votes, including a victory in New York, known as the Democratic stronghold, with 28 votes.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump won Texas, a state with a large number of electoral votes (40), and also won North Dakota and South Dakota along with Louisiana and Wyoming.

Currently, according to 270 to Win , Mr. Trump owns 194 electoral votes.

Ms. Harris narrows the gap with victory in New Jersey, Illinois

Students at Howard University (Washington, DC) are relishing the fact that the school has become one of the "hot spots" of American politics, along with its prominent alumna, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Long lines of students waited to see election results as well as the main event of the Harris-Walz campaign held right in the heart of campus.

“We all have bright futures ahead of us,” enthused senior Josiah King. “Ms. Harris used to say that anyone from anywhere can come here and be great.”

Former President Donald Trump's senior adviser is optimistic

Mr. Corey Lewandowski, a senior adviser to Mr. Trump, appeared confident as the polls began to close, declaring: “We are ready for the transition of power.”

The Republican candidate's campaign believes the easiest path to winning the White House is through Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Affirming that the former President is “on track to win,” adviser Lewandowski said that women “voting based on gender” is a wrong choice.

The race is getting closer and closer

Preliminary results show Vice President Kamala Harris winning Democratic stronghold Vermont, with a chance of winning New Hampshire and Virginia. Vermont has three electoral votes.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is leading his opponent in two states. Specifically, in Indiana, Mr. Trump won 61% of the vote, Ms. Harris won 37% of the nearly 400,000 votes counted.

In Kentucky, Mr. Trump led with 71% of the vote, Ms. Harris with approximately 28%.

Indiana and Kentucky have 11 and 8 electoral votes, respectively. Trump won Kentucky in 2020.

Trump hopes the results in North Carolina "smile" on him

Republican candidate Donald Trump's team is anxiously awaiting results in North Carolina because his campaign has "gone all out" in this state.

Mr. Trump spent three days before the official election in North Carolina, encouraging voters to participate in campaign rallies to take advantage of the opportunity to vote early.

In addition, the former President's team is also particularly concerned because the number of women participating in early voting is higher than men in this state, which is disadvantageous for him.

The rallies have been widely publicized in the state, but attendance has been low. Senior advisers hope the last-ditch effort will help Mr. Trump win North Carolina.

North Carolina previously delivered a narrow victory for the Republican candidate in 2020.

Voting machines malfunction in an Iowa county

Voting machines in some areas of Story County in Central Iowa have malfunctioned, raising concerns that results could be delayed.

Iowa Secretary of State spokeswoman Ashley Hunt Esquivel said the state is working with the vendor to resolve the issue as soon as possible. The official also confirmed that “the issue does not prevent voters from casting ballots, but it may affect the speed of reporting results.”

Story County Clerk Lucy Martin said machines were unable to read “certain types of ballots” at about 12 of the county’s 45 polling places. Election workers will have to count ballots by hand at those locations.

Ms. Martin also confirmed that the machines had been inspected but the cause of the technical problem had not been determined.

President Biden confident he can defeat Mr. Trump

Although it is not known how the confrontation between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will end, current President Joe Biden is always confident that he can win this race.

In addition, Mr. Biden and his close advisers also believe that if he had been the Democratic candidate instead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016, former President Donald Trump would never have had a first term in the White House.

President Biden is “worried about what will happen to the country” if Trump wins the race this time, according to a senior adviser.

Polling stations in many battleground states begin to close

At 7 p.m. Eastern Time, polls closed in several states across the country, including the key battleground state of Georgia.

About 10 polling places in several Georgia counties will open late due to threats to disrupt voting.

The states with closed polls and the number of electoral votes each state has are as follows: Georgia: 16; Indiana: 11; Kentucky: 8; South Carolina: 9; Vermont: 3 and Virginia: 13.

Pennsylvania judge orders election officials to stop counting ballots by hand

The Fayette County Judge ordered Washington Township to send ballots to the County Elections Department for counting when voting ends.

Washington Township Election Judge Vincent Manetta previously said his original intention was to “take the ballots out of the box and check or hand count each presidential candidate’s ballot after the polls closed.”

However, despite being informed by the Director of Elections and his lawyer that he could not act outside the rules by manually counting ballots for each candidate, Mr. Manetta still announced that he would carry out the counting at the polling station.

If the Washington Township election judge fails to comply, the county sheriff's office will provide an escort to assist an election worker in delivering voting materials to the Fayette County Elections Department as required.

The Fayette County judge's ruling also requires the sheriff's office to provide similar escorts to any other local polling place that is “acting outside the authority provided” in the state's election code.

Mr. Trump will "not forgive" any errors in the vote counting process.

Republican candidate Donald Trump will repeat a strategy he has used for years: turning any small mistake, whether technological or human error at the polls, into a story of election fraud.

Georgia extends voting hours due to disruptions from several threats

About 10 polling places in some counties will open later than scheduled, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said. They will stay open for an additional 20 to 40 minutes.

He also emphasized that the number of voters on election day across the state continues to increase, expected to exceed 1.1 million people on the day and reach a total of more than 5.2 million for the entire period.

Mr. Trump leads with more than 63% of votes in favor.

As of 6:35 a.m. on November 6 (Vietnam time), according to updated results from Google, Mr. Trump received 129,612 votes in favor, reaching 63.1% of the votes counted, while Ms. Harris received 73,246 votes in favor, reaching 35.7%.

Harris supporters confident election is fair

According to a CNN poll, about 9 in 10 voters who support Vice President Kamala Harris are confident that this year's election is fair and accurate, while the number among Donald Trump's supporters is somewhat more modest.

Additionally, about three-quarters of 2024 voters believe that democracy in the United States is under threat, with only about one-quarter confident in the security of the system of leadership.

Most voters are concerned about the possibility of post-election violence.

Wisconsin must recount 30,000 absentee ballots

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, city officials will use machines to recount about 30,000 absentee ballots out of an "abundance of caution" after discovering evidence that the vote counting machine doors were not properly closed, city spokesman Jeff Fleming said.

On the afternoon of November 5 (Eastern US time), Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social: “Many people are talking about rampant FRAUD in Philadelphia. Law enforcement is coming!”

However, the Philadelphia Police Department told CNN that it did not know what Mr. Trump was referring to and was not aware of any voting-related issues that required a law enforcement response.

Mr. Trump has made baseless claims about voter fraud in Philadelphia for years, including in this year's election.

Harris' campaign prepares to respond to Trump's early declaration of victory

Vice President Kamala Harris's aides anticipate the possibility that Mr. Trump will try to declare victory early and have prepared response plans, but the final actions will depend on the opponent's moves.

However, two advisers to Ms. Harris told CNN that they will have a "very aggressive" plan to ensure that Mr. Trump's statements are not responded to.

For her part, Ms. Harris has prepared to speak on November 5, but aides warn that those plans could change.

Former President Trump is expecting a big win

In a video speech posted on the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump urged his supporters to go to the polls and "we will have a big victory tonight."

According to CNN , a source said the former President plans to speak to thousands of supporters gathered at the Palm Beach Convention Center, a few miles from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, on the evening of November 5.

The Republican candidate had told reporters earlier that he was uncertain about his plans and had not prepared a speech. However, sources said they expected him to speak regardless of whether the outcome was known and could make a statement quickly.

Mr. Trump is predicted to win in most battleground states.

According to the RealClearPolitics portal, as of November 5, Mr. Trump is leading Ms. Harris in the swing states of Arizona (2.8 percentage points), Georgia (1.3 percentage points), North Carolina (1.2 percentage points), Nevada (0.6 percentage points) and Pennsylvania (0.4 percentage points).

Meanwhile, Ms. Harris leads in only two swing states - Michigan (0.5 percentage points) and Wisconsin (0.4 percentage points).

Two Atlanta polling places have bomb threats

According to CNN , officials in Gwinnett County, Georgia, said that two election precincts in this county will remain open until 7:58 p.m. (November 5 local time, about 7:58 a.m. November 6 Hanoi time) after being closed for a short time due to receiving threats.

The areas were evacuated about an hour after the threat.

Highlights of election activities

With just hours left before polls close, several battleground states recorded high voter turnout despite threats to disrupt the election.

Specifically, Michigan recorded a record number of voters, with at least 3.3 million early voters. Georgia had about 700,000 voters participating in the ballot on the afternoon of November 5, and if the current trend continues, the number of voters could exceed 5.15 million.

Arizona's Apache County experienced voting machine problems, with some voters waiting more than two hours and polling places running out of spare ballots amid the issue.

According to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, the vote count this time around should not take as long as it did in 2020. Election workers in Lancaster County have opened and scanned more than 50% of the approximately 64,000 mail-in ballots. All mail-in ballots are expected to be counted by midnight.

The election went smoothly.

On November 5 (Eastern US time), voters went to the polls to elect the president as well as the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Due to security concerns, authorities in states such as New York, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, etc. have increased security measures and election preparations have been carefully made. Basically, voting in most states went smoothly.

This year, in New York state, there are nearly 13 million registered voters, of which Democratic voters account for an overwhelming number with 5.9 million; Republican voters have 2.8 million and more than 3 million independent voters.

Exit polls show that a majority of New York voters still have faith in Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and expect the US Vice President to win the traditionally Democratic state with 28 electoral votes. New York is a “blue state” that has voted for the Democratic candidate in every presidential election since 1988.

This year, the state is also maximizing voter turnout efforts.
