Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang, Head of the Training Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, stated that the university's 2026 admissions plan remains essentially unchanged from the previous year.

According to Mr. Thang, most of the quota is still for the comprehensive admission method, based on academic results (including transcripts, high school graduation exams and competency assessment tests), along with academic achievements and cultural, sports and artistic activities of candidates.

“Technical adjustments related to score conversion or weighting, if any, will be announced by the school early so that candidates can be proactive in preparing their documents,” said Associate Professor Bui Hoai Thang.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology applies two main admission methods: Comprehensive selection, accounting for 95% to 99% of the total quota, and direct/priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, accounting for approximately 1-5% of the total quota.

The combined admission method applies to the following groups: Candidates with or without results from the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test; Candidates who graduated from high schools abroad; Candidates using international admission certificates (such as SAT, ACT, IB, A-Level, etc.); Candidates applying to "international transfer" programs (Australia, USA, New Zealand).

The minimum score for admission through the combined selection method is 50 points (on a 100-point scale). The formula for calculating the admission score is as follows: Admission score = Academic score + Priority points (on a scale of 100).

Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that in 2026, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will maintain 5 admission methods including: Admission based on high school graduation exam scores; Admission based on 3-year academic transcripts according to subject combinations; Admission based on the aptitude test scores of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City; Admission based on the specialized aptitude test scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education combined with academic transcripts according to subject combinations corresponding to each major; and Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .

According to Mr. Son, maintaining diverse admission methods is a suitable trend today, helping to expand opportunities for candidates and reduce exam pressure when not having to depend entirely on a single exam.

"The flexible admission method helps the school adapt to changes in the high school graduation exam and capacity assessment in the coming years," said Mr. Son.

Specifically, starting in 2026, the school will waive 100% of tuition fees for the entire course and provide a monthly living allowance of 3 million VND for students admitted through direct admission. "This is a commitment to investing in people, creating conditions for talented students to develop comprehensively," Mr. Son emphasized.

From 2028, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will cease using academic transcripts for admissions and switch to a comprehensive competency assessment method, combining academic transcript scores, high school graduation exam scores, and the competency assessment exam scores of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, all weighted into a single score scale.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of the Training Department, stated that from 2026, the university will no longer consider each admission method separately, but will apply a comprehensive admission process.

Accordingly, academic transcripts, high school graduation exam scores, and aptitude test scores (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) will be converted to a common scoring scale, with different weightings for each component.

"After the Ministry of Education and Training has a specific plan, the school will develop a detailed 2026 admissions plan, including a selection process for candidates who do not participate in the aptitude test," Mr. Nhan said.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry applies four admission methods: direct admission, admission based on academic transcripts, admission based on high school graduation exam scores, and admission based on aptitude test scores. When the new plan is implemented, the independent admission process for each method will cease.
