The history of Vietnam's customs industry is part of the nation's history. Just one week after President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, on September 10, 1945, Minister of the Interior Vo Nguyen Giap signed Decree No. 27 establishing the "Department of Customs and Indirect Taxes", officially establishing the Vietnam customs industry.
The customs sector was not born as a continuation of the old apparatus, but carried on a completely new mission - the gatekeeper of the country's economy .
Joining that heroic historical flow, the Regional Customs Branch VI, formerly Lang Son Customs, was officially established on September 10, 1953 according to Decree No. 206 of the Minister of Finance.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Van Hoan, Party Secretary and Head of the Customs Branch of Region VI, affirmed that after 72 years of construction and development, Lang Son Customs has affirmed its role as a guard at the northern border of the Fatherland.

In particular, in 2025, the Customs Branch of Region VI underwent a challenging but meaningful restructuring process. On March 15, 2025, the Customs Branch of Region VI was officially established on the basis of merging two provincial Customs Departments: Cao Bang and Lang Son with an organizational structure of 17 affiliated units with 616 civil servants and employees.
On July 1, 2025, to conform to the two-level local government model, the Regional Customs Branch VI continued to be divided and streamlined according to Conclusion 160 of the Politburo with an apparatus of 11 units and 414 civil servants and employees, a reduction of 29 civil servants and employees compared to the merger date of March 15, 2025, performing state management tasks in Lang Son province.

To start a new journey, initially, Customs Region VI has affirmed its position, achieved certain results in various fields of work, especially impressive budget collection results and breakthroughs and innovations in digital transformation.
In just 7 months of 2025, the Customs Branch of Region VI has completed the target assigned by the State ordinance. Accordingly, by the end of August 2025, the total state budget revenue of the Branch reached 7,800 billion VND, an increase of 68% over the same period in 2024, reaching 121% of the target assigned by the ordinance, reaching 68% of the target of 11,400 billion VND.
Notably, many border customs units have collected 200-500% more than the same period in 2024 (such as Tan Thanh border gate collected 900 billion VND in 2024, but up to now it has collected 2,500 billion VND; Coc Nam border gate collected 8 billion VND in 2024, but up to now it has collected 110 billion VND).
Along with that, import and export turnover through Lang Son province reached 58,694 million USD, an increase of 43.4% over the same period in 2024. Some border gates that had almost no trade activities after the Covid 19 pandemic have now been revived.

These figures strongly reflect the effectiveness of breakthrough solutions in facilitating trade and accompanying businesses of the Customs Branch of Region VI, the main highlight of which is the effectiveness from the drastic implementation of administrative reforms, application of digital technology and artificial intelligence in internal management and support for customs procedures.
Region VI Customs is also a pioneer in implementing the paperless meeting model.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Luong Trong Quynh, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, praised the achievements, progress and efforts of the collective of cadres, civil servants and employees of the Customs Branch of Region VI; at the same time, acknowledged the unit's positive contributions to the construction and development of the province over the past years.

He also requested that the Customs Branch of Region VI focus on directing and synchronously and drastically implementing the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels, the direction of the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Department and the Party Committee and the government of Lang Son province on the tasks and goals of socio-economic development, including the Customs Development Strategy to 2030 approved by the Prime Minister.
At the same time, the Customs Branch of Region VI determined to continue focusing on grasping the import and export situation of goods to proactively remove difficulties and obstacles.

In addition, the Department maintains and promotes cooperative and friendly relations with customs and functional forces of China; continues to coordinate effectively with the Border Guard, Police, market management and People's Committees of border districts in performing tasks.
