Over the past 30 years, when mentioning Nguyen Huy Hoang, professionals and art lovers in our country have always known a talented lacquer painter with profound, mystical works imbued with Eastern cultural identity and philosophy.
His works create a deep impression, showing careful research and new experiments in ideas, composition, color and materials, in which are stories, world views, outlooks on life, fate, history, country, Vietnamese people and the cultural values, unique features that he feels and discovers.

Nguyen Huy Hoang's paintings have been present in many collections and have created a buzz in many domestic and international exhibitions. Among them, many works have received major awards such as the ASEAN Fine Arts Award, the Vietnam - ASEAN Fine Arts Award in 1998, 1999, the Region I Award of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Silver Medal at the National Fine Arts Exhibition in 2005.
What is special is that his lacquer paintings always have a large, open frame, as if only then can he freely express all his creative ideas.
This exhibition "Structure", for those who love his paintings, can be called an innovation of Nguyen Huy Hoang in the materials used as well as the style of expression, or in other words, an open space to explore new inspirations.
As for the artist, he considers it a break, a relaxation in a new creative environment other than lacquer as he said: "I decided to spend time on oil painting and chose abstraction because there I can create spontaneously, without preparation, without sketching and only have the canvas in front of me to freely express my emotions like an experience of structure and harmony".
When admiring his 23 large-scale works at the exhibition with the numbered names, from “Structure 1” to “Structure 23”, viewers can see that it is not simply a release of emotions. Each work has its own nuances, creating diversity in the unity of the implementation process and style.

Only by looking closely at each work of Nguyen Huy Hoang, from near to far, can viewers gradually feel a vivid world in which they can imagine a vast and immense nature, with caves, deserts, and overlapping sand dunes, a vast universe of stars, majestic streets, mountains, rivers, and even tiny entities. Looking from above or up close, each line, each color, each block without clear form, interweaves, blends, seemingly chaotic but is actually arranged in a layered, harmonious structure.
Commenting on his abstract works at the exhibition and the creative changes that are different from what the public usually sees in him in lacquer, painter Nguyen Huy Hoang shared: “People are often close to what is familiar, so they always demand that art be understood and always want art to cling to and reflect something that is happening outside of life or their own wishes and aspirations. My abstract paintings also started from external suggestions, a play of colors, lines, and compositions guided by emotions. At first glance, it seems like there is nothing to associate and compare if you do not open your mind to receive it as a symphony of painting colors.”
The art exhibition "Structure" takes place until August 30 at Art Space gallery - No. 42 - Yet Kieu ( Hanoi ).
