The destroyer USS Carney shot down a UAV launched from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen, apparently targeting the American warship escorting two transport ships.

"While transiting the Red Sea, the Arleigh-Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Carney shot down an Iranian-made KAS-04 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen," the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on November 29.

"Although the UAV's target was unclear, it was then directed toward a warship escorting a U.S. Navy oil tanker and a U.S.-flagged military equipment carrier," CENTCOM said. "There were no casualties among the crew or damage to the U.S. ships."

The US Navy has recently shot down several drones launched from Yemen, most recently on November 23. On November 9, Houthi forces shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone operating off the coast of Yemen, accusing it of conducting reconnaissance in support of Israel.

Following Hamas's October 7th attack on Israel, US forces in Iraq and Syria were repeatedly targeted by rocket or drone attacks, resulting in dozens of injuries. The US accused Iranian-backed militia groups of carrying out these attacks and retaliated with airstrikes.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas appears to have calmed attacks on US forces in the Middle East. The Pentagon announced on November 28 that there had been no attacks on US forces since the agreement took effect on November 24.

On November 29, the U.S. announced that an Iranian drone had dangerously approached the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. naval operations in the Middle East, accused Iran of "unsafe, unprofessional, and irresponsible conduct that endangered the lives of U.S. citizens and our partners."
