In particular, air-conditioned mats are a popular product line chosen by many families, with prices ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 VND for the basic type (size 1m6 x 2m). For higher-end products, with a cooling mesh layer, a waterproof PVC-coated surface and a matching pillow, the price can be up to 300,000 - 500,000 VND per set.

Latex mats, which stand out for their elasticity and softness, are being sold at prices ranging from 300,000 to over 1 million VND depending on quality and brand. In particular, high-quality rattan and bamboo mats, which usually cost from 400,000 VND to several million VND each, are the choice of many customers who prefer traditional products while still ensuring coolness and durability.

In addition, whole bamboo mats or bamboo toothpick mats cost between 200,000 and 600,000 VND, depending on thickness, size and origin. These mats are popular for their natural cooling ability and comfortable feeling when used.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, owner of a bedding store in Cau Giay District, Hanoi, shared: "Compared to the same period last year, the number of customers looking to buy cooling mats has increased by about 30%. In particular, latex mats and air-conditioned rattan mats are very popular."

According to Mr. Hung, in the summer, consumers often prioritize choosing mats with cooling capabilities such as bamboo toothpick mats, whole bamboo mats, Lam bamboo mats or air-conditioned mats. Notably, mats originating from China are also chosen by many Vietnamese customers thanks to their diverse designs and affordable prices.

Cool sleeping mats are popular.

Ms. Le Tham, a bedding vendor at Nghia Tan market (Cau Giay district, Hanoi) said that the hot weather has caused a sudden increase in the number of customers looking to buy mats. In recent days, she has received nearly 20 individual customers each day asking to buy 2-3 mats at a time.

According to Ms. Tham, cooling mats are a “lifesaver” for her store. “A few weeks ago, sales were slow, mats were piled up and no one asked for them. Now we have to import more to have enough to sell. The hot weather is truly a golden opportunity for mat traders,” Ms. Tham said.

Ms. Dao Quynh (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) shared, her house has air conditioning but still buys a cooling mat to sleep more comfortably. The air conditioning is not always on, so spreading out a rattan mat at noon will cool me down. I just ordered 3 latex mats, which are comfortable to lie on and do not stick to my back like bamboo mats.

Many incentives and promotions to stimulate people's demand

Seizing the high purchasing power at the beginning of summer, many small retail stores in traditional markets or along streets specializing in household goods have quickly launched promotional programs to attract customers.

At Phung Khoang market (Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi), one of the places with many shops selling mats and plastic products, it is not difficult to see signs hanging "Buy 2 get 1 free", "20% discount for orders over 300,000 VND" or "Cool mats for the same price of 99,000 VND".

According to Ms. Le Thi Lan, a retailer specializing in this type of cooling mat, these promotional programs are implemented flexibly depending on the quantity of imported goods and the daily consumption level. “It is simply to stimulate demand. Customers who buy in large quantities will receive discounts, along with gifts such as pillowcases and doormats. Thanks to that, many days hundreds of mats are sold out,” Ms. Lan said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) said: "I went to Phung Khoang market to buy vegetables but saw the mats on sale so I stopped by to take a look. In the end, I bought two because the saleswoman said there was a promotion of buy 2 get 1 free. The price was reasonable, the quality was good, and I also got a small mat for the door."

At a small shop on Nguyen Xien Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi), Mr. Huu Duy, a shop owner specializing in household goods, said that every year at the beginning of summer, he often prepares many cheap mats to make them easier to sell. For customers who buy two or more, he always reduces each mat by 10-15 thousand VND. Many people buy them to send to their grandparents in the countryside, so they really like this offer.

Besides direct discounts, many shop owners choose more flexible ways such as free delivery within a 5km radius or giving away small products when buying a mat, such as clothes hangers, multi-purpose cleaning towels...

Mr. Phan Van Tu, a trader at Nghia Tan market (Cau Giay district, Hanoi) shared: “Promotions sometimes do not need to be flashy, just need to meet the needs of customers to come back. I sell bamboo mats and air-conditioned mats, prices range from 120,000 - 250,000 VND. Many people come back to buy a second time just because they get an extra anti-slip mat.”

Cooling mats are becoming the preferred choice of many families in the hot summer, thanks to their ability to cool the sleeping space effectively and save energy.
