Potential directions in rural tourism development

Faced with climate change and the need for sustainable agricultural development, livestock farming models associated with ecotourism are emerging as a potential direction. These models not only help people increase their income but also contribute significantly to the development of agriculture in the direction of multi-value, integrating services and preserving rural culture.

Opportunity to explore and experience new things

In Khanh Hoa , known for its beautiful beaches, goat and sheep farms in arid areas are now becoming attractive destinations, bringing unique experiences to tourists and high economic value to local people. The development of these models requires ensuring environmental hygiene, safe products and the application of modern technology, while making the most of the advantages of the landscape and local culture to create a difference and unique appeal.

Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, said that Khanh Hoa used to be known for its beautiful beaches. Now, goat and sheep farms in the province's arid areas (Southern Khanh Hoa) are also very beautiful, worthy of experiencing. Creating multi-value agriculture through agricultural tourism will bring many benefits to producers.

The National Agricultural Extension Center has implemented many climate change adaptation livestock models associated with ecotourism across the country in recent times. Among them, many goat farming models have been implemented in provinces such as Khanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, and Phu Tho.

In particular, the project of raising goats for breeding to create raw material areas in Khanh Hoa has shown clear effectiveness. It is expected that the model with 300 female goats will bring profits 3.78 times higher than raising outside the model. Households participating in the project not only raise goats but also grow fruit trees, grass, renovate gardens, and create landscapes to attract tourists.

The VNA reporters had the opportunity to visit and listen to Mr. Y Khen in Tay Ninh Hoa commune, Khanh Hoa province share about the effectiveness of the goat farming model. He said his family was supported with 60 breeding goats and 3 male goats when participating in the program. The Khanh Hoa Provincial Agricultural Extension Center supported part of the breeding goats, while his family invested in building the barn themselves. Mr. Y Khen expressed his hope that the model will develop goat farming, while promoting the eco-tourism economy.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Director of Khanh Hoa Agricultural Service Center, said that the Center has built many livestock models associated with ecotourism development. The advantages of the model are maintaining environmental hygiene, improving livestock quality, creating beautiful landscapes; thereby, increasing the value of the farming process, while helping to organize ecotourism tours, increasing the value of livestock.

Sustainable development orientation

The livestock farming models associated with ecotourism have initially succeeded in integrating livestock farming with experiential tourism activities, opening up a new direction in the development of multi-value agriculture. These models not only bring a stable source of additional income for the people but also create a unique highlight in the rural tourism picture; contributing to promoting sustainable regional economic development, associated with the preservation of indigenous culture and landscapes.

Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, commented that in the context of increasingly obvious climate change, choosing an adaptive livestock farming model is an inevitable requirement; thereby opening up a new direction in developing multi-value agriculture, integrating tourism, services and preserving rural culture.

To effectively develop the livestock model associated with tourism, Mr. Thanh said that the prerequisite is to ensure environmental hygiene, safe products and apply modern technology in livestock farming. Localities need to take advantage of the landscape and local culture to build different and unique models; thereby attracting tourists and creating higher added value for producers.

In fact, the combination of animal husbandry and ecotourism has brought economic benefits, contributing to raising public awareness of environmental protection and sustainable agricultural development. This is a promising direction, in line with the trend of developing green agriculture and responsible tourism in the future.
