Four provinces are at high risk of flash floods and landslides tonight.

Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Tho and Thai Nguyen are localities at risk of flash floods and landslides due to heavy rain from tonight (August 5). People need to prepare response plans to protect their lives and property.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, in the past two hours (from 4 PM to 6 PM on August 5th), the provinces of Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai , and Thai Nguyen experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving significant amounts of rain, such as: Phieng Cam 50mm (Son La); Ngoc Lau 67.6mm (Phu Tho); Lung Vai 38.4mm (Lao Cai); Yen Do 63.2mm (Thai Nguyen);...

Soil moisture models indicate that some areas in these provinces are near saturation (above 85%) or have reached saturation.

Over the next 3-6 hours, the aforementioned provinces will continue to experience rain with the following accumulated rainfall amounts: Lao Cai and Phu Tho from 30-50mm, with some areas exceeding 70mm; Son La and Thai Nguyen from 40-60mm, with some areas exceeding 80mm.

Over the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in many communes/wards. The natural disaster risk level warning for flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence due to rain or runoff is Level 1.

Lao Cai : Bac Ha, Ban Lau, Ban Lien, Bao Nhai, Bao Yen, Bat Xat, Cao Son, Coc Lau, Duong Quy, Lam Thuong, Lung Phinh, Muong Khuong, Nam Chay, Nghia Do, Si Ma Cai, Sin Cheng, Ta Cu Ty, Trinh Tuong, Van Ban.

Son La : Chieng Hac, Chieng Khuong, Chieng Son, Doan Ket, Long He, Long Phieng, Long Sap, Muoi Noi, Muong Chanh, Muong E, Nam Lau, Chieng Coi Ward, Moc Chau Ward, Moc Son Ward, Thao Nguyen Ward, Van Son Ward, Phieng Cam, Phieng Khoai, Phieng Pan, Thuan Chau, Van Ho, Xuan Nha, Yen Chau, Yen Son.

Phu Tho : An Binh, An Nghia, Cao Duong, Cao Son, Da Bac, Dung Tien, Hop Kim, Lac Luong, Lac Thuy, Ngoc Son, Ky Son Ward, Tan Hoa Ward, Quy Duc, Tan Pheo, Thinh Minh, Yen Son.

Thai Nguyen : An Khanh, Quan Trieu Ward, Phu Thinh, Xuan Duong; Ba Be, Bach Thong, Cho Moi, Dai Phuc, Duc Luong, Hiep Luc, Hop Thanh, Na Phac, Nam Cuong, Ngan Son, Ba Xuyen Ward, Phuc Thuan Ward, Quyet Thang Ward, Phong Quang, Phu Dinh, Phu Lac, Phu Thong, Phu Xuyen, Phuc Loc, Quan Chu, Quang Son, Tan Cuong, Than Sa, Thuong Quan, Trung Hoi, Van Lang, Vo Tranh, Yen Phong, Yen Trach.

Flash floods and landslides can have very serious impacts on the environment, threatening people's lives; causing localized traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; destroying public and economic infrastructure, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities.

We recommend that local authorities take note of and review bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to implement preventive and response measures.
