As a son of the Mong ethnic group, born and raised in Trung Thang village, Muong Ly commune, since his school days, Sung A U dreamed of becoming a soldier in green uniform. In 2018, he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Regiment 1, Division 324, Military Region 4 (Nghe An). After that, he transferred to Battalion 9, Regiment 3, Division 320 stationed in the old Tho Xuan district. That dream came true, in 2011, he passed the entrance exam to the Border Guard Academy with a major in border management and protection. After 4 years of studying and training, after graduating, he was assigned to the Border Reconnaissance Team, Provincial Border Guard Command. In 2020, he was transferred to work at Tam Chung Border Guard Station and held the position of Captain of the Reconnaissance Team.
Captain Sung A U shared that, imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching "listen to the people, speak so that the people understand, do so that the people believe", right after receiving the new assignment, he went directly to the area to learn about the customs and practices of the people and ate, lived and worked with the people. Tam Chung border commune has 8 villages, including 4 Mong villages and 4 Thai villages. With the assigned duties and responsibilities, he regularly stays close to the area, is close to the people, and actively propagates the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, especially the National Border Law, agreements, treaties and border regulations.
At the same time, as a Mong person, he was assigned by his unit and the local Party Committee and government to participate in the propaganda, dissemination, legal education and mediation team at the grassroots level. By understanding and listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the people, he promptly made recommendations, proposals and advised the locality to come up with policies and solutions to thoroughly resolve problems arising at the grassroots level and in the local community.
In March 2025, he was transferred by his superiors to work at Trung Ly Border Guard Station and assumed the position of Captain of the Mass Mobilization Team. At the new unit, he proactively advised the Party Committee and Commander of Trung Ly Border Guard Station on mass mobilization work, such as: coordinating with groups, teams, and local authorities to organize propaganda sessions in Mong, Thai, and Kinh languages about agreements, treaties, and regulations of the Vietnam-Laos border area, the Vietnam Border Guard Law, the Law on Religious Beliefs, the Law on Residence, the Forestry Law, the Law on Marriage and Family, and Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 9, 2015 of the Prime Minister on "Organizing a mass movement to participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation". As a result, 21 rounds of propaganda and dissemination of laws were organized in 15 villages, with 2,754 participants.
Implementing Directive No. 681-CT/DU dated October 18, 2018 of the Border Guard Party Committee on assigning border guard station party members to be in charge of households in border areas, he continues to be in charge of 5 households in Ta Com village, Trung Ly commune. Along with guiding households to develop production and increase income, he directly teaches literacy and re-literacy classes for 28 people in Canh Cong village. Joining hands and contributing with the commune youth union and volunteer student group of the Agricultural Academy to repair the school yard, roads and plant 200 trees, give gifts to disadvantaged students in Tung village; coordinate the implementation of the program "Bright village in the border area" in Ta Com village.
Commenting on the example of Captain Sung A U, Major Nguyen Van Thien, Political Commissar of Trung Ly Border Guard Station, said: Captain Sung A U has a firm political ideology, a sense of self-cultivation, moral training and is always exemplary in assigned work and tasks, actively participating in movements to build agencies and units, and implementing social security. Regardless of his position, Captain Sung A U is always ready to receive and complete all assigned tasks, trusted and loved by his comrades and teammates. At the same time, he always preserves and promotes the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", wholeheartedly helps the people in the area, and well implements the teaching of "Loyalty to the Party, filial piety to the people". For many consecutive years, he has always achieved the title of grassroots emulation soldier, party member who excellently completed his tasks, and has been awarded many certificates of merit by the Party Committee, Commander of Trung Ly Border Guard Station and local authorities.
