Along the coast of Vung Chao, about 500 meters in Song Cau ward, Dak Lak province (formerly Phu Yen), hundreds of boats, ships, and coracles lay haphazardly and piled up, at noon on November 7.
This is the area that was heavily affected when typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall last night with wind gusts of level 13, and waves rushed ashore, flooding residential areas.

Mr. Vo Xuan Chau (34 years old, Song Cau ward) said that before the storm, he had anchored his 15 meter long boat near the shore of Vung Chao, but the storm broke the rope, and waves washed it ashore. The boat's hull was crushed, the engine room was flooded and completely damaged.
“I bought a boat and machine for nearly 1.5 billion VND to catch needlefish, and now it's a total loss,” he said.

The ship owner was stunned beside the wreck of his boat that had washed ashore. Sitting next to the half-submerged boat, Mr. Hung said he had hired someone to salvage it since morning but was unsuccessful because it was stuck with many other boats and the water level was low. “We have to wait for the tide to rise before we can pull it out and remove the engine and sell it because the boat’s hull is completely damaged,” he said.

The 800 CV boat of Mr. Nguyen Kim Cuong (47 years old) was hit by a big wave and broke its anchor and drifted into the rocks. Today, he and many workers are collecting the remaining fishing gear and assets. Mr. Cuong estimates the damage to be in the billions of dong. The boat was built 6 years ago, worth about 6 billion dong, specializing in purse seine fishing in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters.

In Ly Son special zone ( Quang Ngai province), an old passenger ship was thrown ashore and severely damaged. This morning, hundreds of border guards were mobilized to repair the embankment damaged by the high tide.
