The Government allows mineral exploitation for construction projects to welcome APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc

On May 19, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province announced that Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung had just signed a decision assigning the task of quickly implementing projects to serve the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in Phu Quoc in 2027 (APEC 2027).

Accordingly, the Government approved the application of regulations on granting licenses to exploit minerals for common construction materials (sea sand mines in Phu Quoc City), according to regulations on granting licenses to exploit group 4 minerals for contractors implementing urgent public investment projects of the Law on Geology and Minerals.

From there, provide construction materials for embankment construction and site leveling projects, build APEC Conference Center and functional works.

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province reviews, decides within its authority and is responsible for implementing urgent public investment projects in accordance with the provisions of the law on public investment and other relevant laws for the projects;

Responsible for applying the form of investor selection in special cases according to the provisions of the law on bidding, investment under the public-private partnership method and other relevant laws for projects serving APEC 2027.

Previously, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province proposed the Government to pilot a special mechanism for exploiting mineral mines as common construction materials to serve the project, welcoming APEC 2027.

Specifically, the demand for raw materials for investment in construction of works and projects to welcome APEC 2027 includes: about 10 million m3 of sea sand, about 3.2 million ^m3 of construction stone and about 1.4 million ^m3 of fill soil.

It is expected to add a plan to exploit 2 sea sand mines with a total area of 426 hectares (sand mine northeast of Mui Ong Doi, mine southeast of Mui Ong Doi, estimated sand reserves of about 16 million ^m3 ); local construction stone will be transported from the mainland to Phu Quoc, and the supply will come from 2 stone mines Tra Duoc Lon and Hon Soc.

Regarding land for filling, Kien Giang plans to take advantage of surplus materials from digging Cua Can lake (estimated at about 6 million ^m3 ) and digging Duong Dong lake (estimated at about 2 million ^m3 ).
