American fig trees are grown at the Bon Bon Agricultural Tourism Cooperative.

As a pioneering unit in applying science and technology to production, the 19/5 Agricultural Development Service Cooperative has invested in an experimental garden covering more than 7 hectares. Here, the cooperative focuses on researching the cultivation of temperate fruit trees, selecting native species as standard rootstocks to create many unique, high-quality fruit tree varieties, such as: Golden-tipped plum, early-ripening plum, late-ripening plum, early-ripening peach, milk grape, temperate pear, and loquat trees with characteristics of strong trees and high yields.

Leading us on a tour of the experimental garden, Mr. Mai Duc Thinh, Director of the Cooperative, shared: "The cooperative designed the experimental garden to grow new plant varieties that meet technical requirements and are aesthetically pleasing for tourists to visit. Based on the successful plant varieties in the experimental garden, the cooperative has partnered with farmers, guiding them in applying scientific and technical methods, introducing new varieties into production, and providing consumers with high-quality, safe products."

Meanwhile, at the Bon Bon Agricultural Tourism Cooperative in Muong Sang ward, unique crops have been selected for production, such as raspberries, American figs, cherry tomatoes, peony grapes, Colombian passion fruit, and giant gourds and pumpkins weighing 50-100 kg, creating a unique natural landscape that attracts tourists. In addition, the cooperative focuses on developing Hana strawberries (Japan), King Berry giant strawberries (Korea), Snow White white and pink-cheeked strawberries, Sky strawberries, and Oishii strawberries (Japan)... Each type of plant is cared for according to technical procedures, ensuring the fruit always achieves the best quality, retaining its fresh flavor and high nutritional value.

Mr. Lai Tuan Viet, Manager of Bon Bon Farm, Bon Bon Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, informed: "With new plant varieties, we always test them first to check their adaptability to the climate and soil of Moc Chau. Because these are all imported varieties and the care process is not yet complete, the cooperative has to conduct its own research. After mastering the techniques, we proceed with propagation to serve the cooperative's production and farmers in the region."

The selection and introduction of new crop varieties into production has been proactively and actively implemented and replicated by businesses, cooperatives, and farmers in Moc Chau town. These new crop models also actively apply advanced and modern technologies to production. Growing plants in greenhouses and glasshouses; investing in automatic fertilization and irrigation systems; using agricultural mulch... helps prevent plant diseases, reduces labor for care, and ensures consistent moisture levels for healthy plant growth and development, resulting in high yields and production.

To date, Moc Chau has 486 establishments applying water-saving irrigation techniques to over 610 hectares; 141 establishments investing in greenhouses and net houses with an area of over 100 hectares; more than 1,120 hectares of fruit trees and vegetables of various types recognized as meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; 24 planting area codes serving export; and the production value per hectare of cultivated land reaching nearly 80 million VND.

Many new crop varieties have yielded high economic returns, such as: Sweet Palermo peppers generating 500 million VND/ha; yellow cantaloupe grown in greenhouses and polytunnels, with a yield of about 30 tons/ha and a selling price of around 45-50 thousand VND/kg; South American watermelon, with a yield of 35 tons/ha and a selling price of 80-120 thousand VND/kg; yellow-skinned dragon fruit, harvested 4 times a year, with a yield of nearly 30 tons/ha and a selling price of 50-80 thousand VND/kg...

Thanks to the efforts, creativity, and shift in mindset of farmers, new, suitable, and economically efficient crops have been introduced into production, contributing to the diversification of agricultural products in Moc Chau town. At the same time, this has created new, high-quality products to meet consumer demand, linked to eco-tourism and agricultural experiences.
