Universal officially announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Christopher Nolan's film project The Odyssey , starring Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron, will be released on July 17, 2026.
The project is adapted from the ancient Greek epic of the same name by the poet Homer, telling the story of Odysseus' journey back home after the Trojan War. After the battle, Odysseus had to drift for many years, facing many dangers while his wife - the beautiful Penelope, at home, waited day by day for her husband to return.
Director Christopher Nolan now has a cast of Hollywood's A-list stars on his hands as he adapts Homer's ancient epic Odysseus.

Compared to previous works, this time The Odyssey project directed by director Christopher Nolan is considered very different because the director touches on different adapted material, as well as the age of the original work (believed to have been born around the 8th century BC). Homer's epic, before being adapted again, has long been an endless source of inspiration for many film adaptations around the world as well as many other types of non-film.
Previously, filmmaker Christopher Nolan made his mark with famous works such as the Batman series adapted from DC Comics, The Prestige adapted from the novel by Christopher Priest and most recently Oppenheimer adapted from the book American Prometheus by authors Kai Bird, Martin J. Sherwin (as well as relying heavily on real material such as the character's life). It is hard to imagine Christopher Nolan's perspective when he adapted the epic with a color blend between the world of humans and gods, demons and monsters to the screen.
Regarding the cast of artists participating in the project, they are all famous artists, and all are names that sell tickets on the silver screen, such as Tom Holland, who is already famous for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel "cinematic universe"; Zendaya, if we take the most recent work in which she starred and was a blockbuster this year, Dune: Part Two ; and Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway have also previously appeared in this director's blockbuster works.
Universal's announcement said The Odyssey is scheduled to begin filming early next year. According to the distributor, Christopher Nolan's project will be filmed in many locations around the world using advanced IMAX filming technology, continuing to show the director and producers' willingness to spend money on the project. The Odyssey is the second film that Christopher Nolan has collaborated with Universal.
