The owner of a private daycare facility suspected of abusing a 9-month-old girl in Buon Ma Thuot City ( Dak Lak ) said he did not hit her, but that the girl was playing in a hammock and fell, causing bruises on both cheeks.

On the morning of February 17, the police and the People's Committee of Tan Lap Ward worked with Ms. Dang Thi Kim Chi (49 years old, residing in Tan Lap Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City), the owner of a private facility suspected of abusing a 9-month-old girl.

This childcare facility is a ground-floor house in alley 22 Tran Quy Cap (Tan Lap ward) rented by Ms. Chi and has been taking care of children for the past 4 years.

Ms. Chi said that every day she takes care of children from 1 month to 4 years old at a cost of 1.2 - 1.5 million VND/child.

Ms. Chi said that in the neighborhood, there were mainly families who worked for hire and were struggling, so at first she took care of 1-2 children, at the peak she took care of 6 children.

At her facility, the children are still being well taken care of, none of them have had any problems. As for baby D., she was a bit naughty so she was not able to take care of him and had to return him to his father.

Regarding the suspicion that D. was abused at Ms. Chi's daycare, Ms. Chi said that on the morning of February 13, she put D. on a hammock to play and then looked after the other children. After a while, because the hammock was unstable, D. fell face down on a pile of toys on the floor, suffering a few small bruises, but she did not slap the child as the child's father suspected.

"At the same time baby D. fell, his father, Mr. Nhat, was still in the yard. Hearing his son cry, Mr. Nhat ran in to pat the baby's head and continued working, while I applied medicine to the baby," Ms. Chi explained.

Ms. Chi added that baby D. had just been sent to her place for 5 days, and the food was cooked and brought by the baby's father. She only looked after the baby and fed him, and the bruises on both cheeks were "from falling face down on a pile of toys."

Talking about her daycare, Ms. Chi said she and her husband rented a house, and the neighborhood was full of poor workers who had to go to work, so she helped look after them.

The children's parents take care of the meals themselves, and the grandmother also buys fruit, cakes, or milk when the children cry.

"I opened a daycare center for poor people in the neighborhood, so I didn't have a license and didn't report it to the authorities. I also don't have any teaching experience or childcare skills," Ms. Chi admitted.

"My husband and I did not hit the child, but Mr. Nhat insisted that the child was abused, so we had an argument. I challenged Mr. Nhat to report it to the police or authorities just out of impulse and anger," Ms. Chi explained.

A leader of Tan Lap Ward People's Committee said that Ms. Chi's daycare facility has been taking care of 4-5 children for many years. "Ms. Chi's daycare facility opened spontaneously, without registration or license. This morning, the Ward People's Committee requested Ms. Chi to stop operating so that the locality can complete the documents for administrative handling," he said.

Regarding this, yesterday afternoon, Mr. Nhat posted information on social media about being a single parent raising a child who was suspected of being abused, so he received a lot of support from the people.

Up to now, Nhat and his father have received about 500 million VND in support from the online community and people, so he no longer accepts support.
