Since its inception in 2014, the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference has become a forum to enhance the role of young parliamentarians and youth participation in parliamentary activities; offering recommendations from a youth perspective on the activities and agenda of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU).

To gain a better understanding of the outstanding results of the previous eight Global Young Parliamentarians' Conferences and expectations for the upcoming ninth conference, a reporter from Vietnam National Assembly Television conducted an online interview with Mr. Dan Carden, President of the IPU Young Parliamentarians' Forum.

Reporter: Thank you, Mr. Dan Carden, for taking the time to speak with Vietnam National Assembly Television. In your opinion, what is the significance of the formation of the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference for young parliamentarians around the world?

Dan Carden, President of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum: The Global Young Parliamentarians Conference has brought about tremendous changes for young parliamentarians since its inception in 2014. Prior to that, there was no global conference specifically dedicated to young parliamentarians.

Now we have a place where young parliamentarians can build a community and harness the power of youth to confront the global challenges we face.

Reporter: The 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference will focus on discussing the role of youth in promoting the achievement of sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation. How do you assess the topic chosen by the Vietnamese National Assembly?

Mr. Dan Carden, President of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum: Since its inception, the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference has had a tremendous impact. But the upcoming conference in Vietnam will be an opportunity for us to go even further.

The world is at a turning point concerning a range of issues, whether it's climate change or sustainable development. We need to act faster. At the same time, human innovation is happening more intensely than ever before. New technologies like artificial intelligence offer tremendous opportunities, but also come with risks.

IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum President Dan Carden addressed the issue of mastering technology.

The upcoming conference will focus on how young parliamentarians like ourselves can master innovation and digital transformation, thereby helping to address the many global challenges we face, in a responsible and ethical manner.

The conference will equip young parliamentarians with the knowledge to address the issues facing their own parliaments, and share valuable perspectives to strengthen global efforts.
