These goals were shared by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Truong Canh Tuyen, at the opening ceremony of the Can Tho City Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week 2025 (CASTID 2025), held on the morning of December 16th.

The Can Tho City Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week 2025 will take place from December 16th to 20th.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen stated that, with the theme "Can Tho - A Center for Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation," the series of seminars, forums, and scientific workshops will contribute to providing breakthrough solutions and directions focusing on three objectives.
To identify breakthrough directions and solutions for the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in Can Tho City to realize the goals set out in Resolution 57 of the Politburo . To introduce outstanding achievements and disseminate exemplary innovation and digital transformation models within and outside the city. To honor innovative and digital transformation models that have been effectively applied in production, management, and daily life.
Expanding opportunities for commercializing scientific and technological products, connecting technology supply and demand, and contributing to the promotion of the local science and technology market. Simultaneously, synthesizing proposals, opinions, and recommendations from experts, businesses, and organizations to serve as a basis for formulating policies and action plans on innovation and digital transformation in the coming period.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, set out three goals at CASTID 2025 .
According to Mr. Tuyen, Can Tho, with its position as a core urban center and economic, cultural, and educational hub of the Mekong Delta region, plays a leading role in regional economic development. Can Tho has always identified science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as core drivers to enhance competitiveness and promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.
“Based on the general direction of the Central Government, the city has issued many policies, programs, and plans to promote research, application, and transfer of scientific and technological advancements into key areas such as high-tech agriculture, processing industry, healthcare, education, and the environment… Along with science and technology, the city pays special attention to developing the startup and innovation ecosystem to boost productivity, quality, and competitiveness of the economy.”
Notably, in 2025, the city implemented the establishment of the Can Tho City Startup and Innovation Center under the Department of Science and Technology, in accordance with the Prime Minister's policy. The Center will act as the city's focal point for connecting and exploiting resources within and outside the city for startup and innovation activities; building and developing the city's startup and innovation ecosystem,” Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen cited as an example.
We must innovate.
According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long, CASTID 2025 is not only an opportunity to honor knowledge and creativity, but also a declaration of action by the city in redefining its role from an administrative and educational center to an innovation center and a center for sustainable development solutions, adapting to the digital age for the Mekong Delta.

Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long stated that Can Tho has advantages in knowledge, access to technology, and human resources, but the gap between research and application, from technology to market, and from idea to product remains significant. Many scientific results have not yet left the laboratory. Many existing technologies have not been "localized" to suit the production conditions, scale, and absorption capacity of businesses in the region; many initiatives remain at the experimental stage without creating economic and social value.
Therefore, innovation is the key factor. If this is done well, Can Tho will not only be a place to receive technology, but will also become a place to transform knowledge into solutions, creating concrete value for people and businesses and spreading it throughout the Mekong Delta region. This is the new, deeper, and more sustainable role of Can Tho in the era of innovation and digital transformation.
According to Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long, innovation is the path for Can Tho to reorganize its development model, shifting from relying on resources and labor to relying on knowledge, technology, and innovation capacity. From geographical advantages to creative competitive advantages. From passive adaptation to proactive resilience and adaptation to climate change and development shocks.
"When innovation is placed at the center, Can Tho will be able to shape its own development path, suitable for a central urban area in the Mekong Delta region, playing the role of a knowledge engine, a hub for solutions, and a driving force for the entire Mekong Delta in the long term," Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long emphasized.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, stated that Can Tho is home to a system of major research institutes and universities in the region, with Can Tho University playing a core role in training high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research, and transferring technology for the entire Mekong Delta region. At the same time, Can Tho is also a center for the development of high-tech applied agriculture, processing of agricultural and aquatic products, logistics, and services linked to regional value chains, placing increasingly high demands on the application of science and technology, promoting innovation, and digital transformation in management, production, and business.
“CASTID 2025 is expected to become an open space, effectively connecting state management agencies, research institutes, universities, businesses, and the creative community. It will be a forum for sharing knowledge and experience, introducing new models, solutions, and technologies to serve economic and social development…”
At the same time, in the coming period, the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department will continue to coordinate with the Can Tho City Party Committee in researching, exchanging theories and summarizing practical experiences; organizing seminars and scientific forums to further clarify the role, models and solutions for developing Can Tho into a center of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation of the region,” the Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department emphasized.
The Can Tho City Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Week 2025 will take place from December 16-20 with a series of 20 activities and events and more than 50 exhibition booths showcasing over 500 breakthrough technology products ranging from artificial intelligence and financial technology to green technology and smart agriculture. The event is not only a series of professional activities, but also a practical event that clearly demonstrates Can Tho's determination to choose science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers for rapid and sustainable development, strongly spreading the spirit of innovation, arousing the aspiration for creativity, the spirit of commitment, and the responsibility of the entire society towards the development of the city and the Mekong Delta region. |
