President receives Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China)

(CPV) – On the afternoon of November 15, on the occasion of attending the 2024 Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week in Lima (Peru), President Luong Cuong received Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) Lee Ka-chiu.

Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu congratulated President Liang Qiang on his new position and believed that under the leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam will continue to develop even more strongly.

Mr. Lee Ka-Chiu expressed his gratitude for Vietnam's warm and thoughtful reception during his visit to Vietnam in August this year; said that after the visit, exchanges of delegations at all levels, businesses and people of both sides became more active; affirmed that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government attaches importance to developing substantive and mutually beneficial relations with Vietnam.

With Vietnam being Hong Kong's second largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Mr. Lee Ka-Chiu expressed his belief that economic and trade relations between the two sides still have much room for development.

President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the results of the first official visit of Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu to Vietnam in August 2024, welcoming Mr. Lee Ka-chiu's attention and direction of many practical measures to facilitate cooperation between the two sides in various fields and people-to-people exchanges.

The President affirmed that Vietnam consistently considers developing friendly neighborly relations and a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy; at the same time, he emphasized that Vietnam always respects and supports the "one country, two systems" policy, the Basic Law and related regulations of Hong Kong, and supports Hong Kong's prosperous development.

To strengthen cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to assign relevant agencies, ministries, sectors and localities to actively coordinate to implement the common perception of the high-ranking leaders of Vietnam and China; increase exchanges of delegations at all levels, promote the establishment of cooperation frameworks; expand and improve the quality and effectiveness of economic-trade, investment and financial cooperation; promote strategic connectivity cooperation, encourage Hong Kong enterprises to invest in the fields of large-scale infrastructure connectivity, innovation, digital economy, green economy, circular economy and energy transition.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen coordination in citizen protection, justice and law enforcement, creating more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong; actively expand cultural, educational, labor and tourism exchanges and cooperation, and coordinate in multilateral economic cooperation mechanisms and frameworks of which both sides are members.

On this occasion, Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu respectfully invites President Liang Keong to visit Hong Kong at an appropriate time./.
