Asian stock markets opened lower on April 13th, after talks between the US and Iran ended without an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East, while US President Donald Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
After opening down 2.08%, South Korea's Kospi index fell 89.15 points, or 1.52%, to 5,769.72 points in the first 15 minutes of trading. Meanwhile, in the first 15 minutes of trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell 175.89 points, or 0.31%, to 56,748.22 points.
The breakdown of negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad last weekend has raised concerns about a longer-than-expected conflict, driving up oil prices and further putting pressure on the global economy .
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump is reportedly considering resuming airstrikes on Iran. Last week, he agreed to a two-week ceasefire in exchange for Iran opening the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to that, he had threatened to destroy all of Iran's power plants and infrastructure.
In Vietnam last weekend, the VN-Index rose 13.31 points (0.77%) to 1,750 points, while the HNX-Index increased 0.93 points (0.37%) to 251.91 points.
