Join hands to fight plastic waste

Responding to the “Anti-plastic waste” movement, in recent years, the Women’s Union of Thanh Son town, Thanh Son district has implemented many models, activities and practical tasks to raise awareness and change the behavior of members, women and people in protecting the environment, limiting the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products. Thereby, contributing to reducing plastic waste, protecting health, and creating a green, clean, beautiful and safe living environment.

Members and women of Hoang Son branch bring recyclable waste to the model "Collecting recyclable waste to join hands to protect the environment".

Ms. Dinh Thi Hong Phuong - President of the Women's Union of the town said: In order for the "Anti-plastic waste" movement to spread and achieve high efficiency, the Women's Union of the town has actively directed the chapters to be pioneers and role models in reducing and consuming plastic products and nylon bags that are difficult to decompose, especially disposable plastic products; building specific models associated with waste classification; propagating to members and people to prioritize the use of reusable items, environmentally friendly products such as paper cups, glass to hold water in daily life and events in residential areas. Up to now, 100% of conferences and meetings of the Women's Union of the town and its chapters have used glass bottles and cups...

One of the most effective models is the “Collecting recycled scrap to join hands to protect the environment” model at Hoang Son branch. Established in 2023, the model has attracted 200 members to participate.

Ms. Vo Thi Kim Xuan - Head of the Women's Union said: Previously, women had the habit of throwing away plastic waste with other types of waste in the family and then taking it to the garbage collection site, but after being promoted and mobilized by the Women's Union of the town to participate in the model "Collecting recycled waste to join hands to protect the environment", women actively registered to participate and guided relatives and people to classify waste at home, limiting the use of plastic bags and disposable products. Thanks to that, people's awareness in classifying waste is increasingly improved, types of waste that can be recycled such as: Plastic bottles, cans, scrap paper are classified and collected by members and women at home. When full, they will be brought to the cultural house of the area to put in the "Collecting recycled waste to join hands to protect the environment" bin to sell to raise charity funds, help orphans, members and women in difficult circumstances. Up to now, the Women's Union of the town has directed the replication of the model "Collecting recycled scrap to join hands to protect the environment" to the branches. At the same time, effectively maintaining the model "Women carrying baskets to the market" at the Ha Son branch, the model "5 no 3 clean" at the Thong Nhat branch...

Along with that, the Association also included the content of mobilizing members and women to participate in environmental protection and combating plastic waste in the annual emulation criteria, thereby creating a vibrant emulation movement. Women's associations have actively integrated propaganda content to members, women and people about limiting the use and dumping of plastic waste into the environment through communication conferences; Association activities, guiding members, women and people to classify household waste; cleaning and unclogging sewers; collecting and classifying used plastic products and transporting them to recycling sites.

With the rich forms and diverse contents of the activities of the members, Thanh Son town women have spread environmental protection activities widely in the community. Members, women as well as people are increasingly aware of environmental protection, using environmentally friendly products, thereby contributing to the implementation of civilized lifestyle, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas in the locality.
