The sweet fruits of decisive action.

After 5 years of implementing the "Building Da Nang - An Environmental City" project for the period 2021-2025, Da Nang has achieved many outstanding results, creating a foundation for the goal of developing an ecological, green, clean, beautiful, and livable city.

Of the 59 key tasks, 28 were completed excellently, and the remaining 31 were implemented regularly, demonstrating the determination of the entire political system in the journey of building the "Environmental City" brand.

Da Nang consistently led the country in environmental protection in 2021, 2022, and 2023; and was repeatedly honored at the Vietnam Smart City Awards in the category of "Green and Clean Smart City" in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

According to Pham Nam Son, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the achievements over the past years are the result of the coordinated efforts of various sectors and localities, and the joint efforts of the people, businesses, and tourists in preserving a "green, clean, and beautiful" living environment.

The project's success is not only reflected in statistics but also in real life. Conservation of nature and biodiversity has been strengthened; the area of ​​natural forests continues to be maintained; hunting and trading of wild animals have significantly decreased; and various resources have been effectively mobilized to implement waste sorting at source, reduce plastic waste, promote recycling, and foster green consumption habits in the community.

Models such as "Green, Clean, and Beautiful Sunday," "Environmentally Friendly Residential Area," "Green Enterprise," and the Children's Club for Waste Sorting in Binh Phuoc 1 residential area (Hai Chau ward),... are being replicated, creating a positive ripple effect. From sorting waste and reducing plastic bags to participating in community cleaning and environmental protection, these initiatives are becoming habits for city residents...

Determined to protect the environment

Building on the achievements of the 2021-2025 period, Da Nang continues to implement numerous solutions for the next phase, with 2026 identified as a pivotal year. From the beginning of the year, environmental protection efforts have been implemented comprehensively from the city level down to the wards and communes, creating many positive changes.

In Thanh Khe ward, many solutions have been implemented to improve the quality of the living environment in the area. Public sanitation is regularly maintained with increased manpower and vehicles for collecting and transporting household waste.

Lakes such as Xuan Hoa A, 2-hectare lake, Bau Lang, Trung Nghia 1 and 2 have been renovated using aquatic plant rafts and biological products, contributing to improved water quality and urban landscape.

According to Ho Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Khe Ward People's Committee, from the beginning of the year to May 20th, the locality handled 41 environmental-related complaints and removed two unsightly garbage collection points. A conference on environmental protection, attended by over 500 neighborhood group leaders, also contributed to spreading community awareness.

Urban beautification and environmental protection efforts in Hai Chau ward have yielded many positive results. The local authorities have focused on addressing debris dumping sites along Xuan Dieu and Ong Ich Khiem streets; inspecting and repairing dilapidated manhole covers and sidewalks; and cleaning up vacant lots where waste accumulates.

According to Nguyen Van Duy, Chairman of the Hai Chau Ward People's Committee, sustainable environmental protection must begin at the street and residential group level. The locality focuses on addressing existing problems while also stepping up propaganda to encourage people to change their habits and work together to maintain a clean and beautiful living space.

On a city-wide scale, Da Nang continues to implement environmental protection efforts based on three pillars: improving institutions, investing in infrastructure, and raising community awareness. The city is accelerating waste treatment projects in Khanh Son, tightening the management of construction waste, promoting a circular economy, reducing carbon emissions, developing renewable energy, and environmentally friendly transportation.

Mr. Pham Nam Son stated that the city is continuing to review and adjust the "Building Da Nang - An Environmental City" project to align with the city's new development orientation and space; finalize environmental protection policies; and enhance environmental management capacity at all levels and sectors.

The Department will update the "Environmental City" criteria to align with development orientations; assess emission sources, forecast environmental quality, and identify key issues such as pollution control, waste treatment, nature conservation, biodiversity, and raising community awareness.

Based on that, priority programs and projects will be arranged according to a suitable roadmap, aiming to build Da Nang into an ecological city with sustainable development.
