Spread love

Mrs. Tran Thi Nu's family lives in a small house at the end of Kim Doi village, Tien Lang commune. Her granddaughter has a congenital disability, paralyzed in her limbs since childhood. Tragically, her parents passed away early, so for many years, she and her granddaughter have relied on each other. Mrs. Nu's granddaughter is 7 years old but cannot walk and always longs for someone to come and play with her. Knowing this wish, every month, the youth union members of the commune visit, encourage, and give gifts to the child. "For so many years, life has been difficult, taking care of my disabled granddaughter alone, but every time I see her eyes light up with joy and excitement when she plays with the youth union members, I feel more motivated to try my best to take care of her," Mrs. Nu said emotionally.

This is just one of many heartwarming stories from the "Giving Love - Sending Smiles to Children" campaign organized by the Tien Lang Commune Youth Union over the years. With a spirit of mutual support and compassion, local youth mobilize donations and prepare dozens of gift packages, including cash, rice, and essential goods, to deliver directly to underprivileged children each month. Each gift, though not of great material value, contains sincere affection, sharing, and provides encouragement for the children to overcome difficulties, pursue their studies, and nurture their dreams.

In Le Dai Hanh ward, the free haircut program for children is implemented in collaboration with youth hair salons. Neat and tidy haircuts not only help children feel more confident but also serve as a way for the community to care for the children's well-being, conveying the message and belief that every child deserves attention and love.

Many businesses and financial institutions have also been long-term partners in programs supporting underprivileged students. Vietcombank's Nam Hai Phong branch has maintained scholarships for students facing difficulties for many years. Each scholarship is not only financial support but also a message: "Believe in yourselves, society is always there for you."

Another meaningful activity was the bicycle donation program organized by the Hai Phong Red Cross Society in coordination with HECHUN Logistics Co., Ltd. in early September. Dozens of new bicycles were handed over to underprivileged, academically excellent students in various areas.

Nguyen Thi Huong, a 6th-grade student at Dang Hai Secondary School in Hai An ward, emotionally shared that she had long wished for a bicycle. Now that she has one, she can travel more independently and will try her best to study hard so as not to disappoint everyone.

It is known that HECHUN Logistics Company also regularly collaborates with the City Red Cross in many activities: donating milk, providing nutritional support, and giving gifts to underprivileged children. This persistence shows that philanthropy is not just a one-time activity, but a long-term responsibility of the business to the community.

According to information from the City Red Cross Society, during the summer of 2025, the City Red Cross Society organized the donation of 47 gifts to disadvantaged students in the two communes of Quyet Thang and Vinh Hoa, totaling 25 million VND. The "Super-Heavy Pig Slaughtering and Procession Competition" was held in 267 schools across the city, with over 180,000 students participating, raising a total of 4.3 billion VND. Schools donated 3,272 gifts to poor students and students who are children of Agent Orange victims, worth over 855 million VND. Local authorities, the city, and high schools contributed over 880 million VND to the city as per regulations.

Red Cross branches at all levels, from city to grassroots, have mobilized individuals, businesses, and philanthropists to maintain regular support for 1,067 victims of Agent Orange, families of policy beneficiaries, lonely elderly people, orphaned children, and poor students who overcome difficulties, worth 378 million VND...

A common thread in activities supporting children is the spirit of collaboration among various social forces such as associations, the Red Cross, government, organizations, businesses, and benevolent individuals. Each side contributes their efforts and compassion to create a widespread network of love. Gifts, scholarships, bicycles, or even neat haircuts have given children strength and confidence to overcome difficulties and nurture their dreams. This love also sparks concern throughout society for the younger generation, especially underprivileged children.

Working together to care

Not stopping at short-term programs, Hai Phong city has been implementing many long-term activities to support disadvantaged children. The city's Red Cross regularly maintains livelihood support programs for poor families raising children through the "Nutrition for Poor and Disabled Children" program, distributing thousands of servings of milk and gifts each year, opening life skills classes and health education programs, helping disadvantaged children confidently integrate into the community.

Local authorities and organizations have also implemented many practical models such as the "Scholarship and Talent Promotion" Fund, mobilizing social resources to provide long-term scholarships for underprivileged students. The City Women's Union organizes "Godmother" groups to adopt and support the education of orphaned children, ensuring they attend school and develop comprehensively. The Hai Phong City Youth Union maintains the "Supporting Students to School" program, awarding scholarships, books, and learning equipment to students in disadvantaged areas from the beginning of the new school year. In particular, Hai Phong City has enacted many social welfare policies, including those prioritizing the protection, care, and education of children. The connection between all levels of government, organizations, the Red Cross, and the community creates a widespread and sustainable support network, ensuring that children in difficult circumstances are not left behind.

Hai Phong is gradually building a humane living environment where children are always placed at the center. Caring for and supporting disadvantaged children is not only a responsibility but also an act of sowing seeds for the future. The long-term partnership of organizations, businesses, and the community demonstrates that helping poor children doesn't stop at the start of the school year or a festival, but is a persistent journey throughout the year. This is the solid foundation for each child to confidently walk the path ahead, becoming a useful citizen for their family and society.
