Joining hands to support the Cuban people: Because I am Vietnamese

In recent days, on social networking sites, the story of supporting the Cuban people in the program: "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" campaign has received positive responses from people across the country. Just a few days after launching, hundreds of billions of VND from millions of accounts have participated in supporting. In Thai Nguyen, that spirit has been widely spread among all classes of people, becoming a profound humane beauty.

Many people after transferring money to support the Cuban people shared it on their personal pages to create positive spread.

Vietnamese people who lived during the period 1960-1975 certainly cannot forget the kind support that the Cuban Government and people gave to our country.

Mr. Nguyen Van Le, 85 years old, retired cadre of Huong Son 2 group, Gia Sang ward, emotionally shared: I have witnessed aid shipments from Cuba to Vietnam and will never forget the famous saying of President Fidel Castro "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to donate its blood". Recently, when the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, we received hundreds of thousands of doses of vaccine donated by Cuba. Today, knowing that the Cuban people are in difficulty, as a Vietnamese, I feel that I cannot stand aside. Therefore, I have deducted part of my pension to ask my children and grandchildren to support through the account of the Vietnam Red Cross Society . My children and grandchildren have also voluntarily contributed, with the hope that our friends will soon overcome difficulties.

From faraway Australia, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh, a native of Thai Nguyen who is living and working here, upon hearing the news, also sent 2 million VND to the Central Red Cross Society's account.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh shared: In the future, when the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia organizes a launch, I will continue to participate.

Not only the previous generation, the younger generation in Thai Nguyen, although not directly experiencing war or difficult years, but through movies, history lessons... they also understand the value of international solidarity.

Many Thai Nguyen people participated in the program to support the Cuban people with the theme "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship".

Nguyen Thi L., a student at Chu Van An High School, said: Through history lessons and the press, I understand that Cuba has always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence. Therefore, I decided to use all the money my parents gave me to buy new clothes for my birthday to support the Cuban people.

Around the support story, we were especially touched by the hearts of many working people, even though their income is not high.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, a trader at Dai Tu market, confided: Looking on Zalo and Facebook, I know that my country is having a movement to support the Cuban people. Many clips in recent days have also posted content about Vietnam having received help from Cuba in the past, so I have set aside the profit from a day of shopping to support. The campaign will end in about 2 months, I will save money to be able to send support 1-2 more times.

Previously, on August 13, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society was assigned by the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front to preside over and coordinate with a number of ministries, branches, and units to organize a program to mobilize support for the Cuban people with the theme "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship". The program will take place for 65 days (from August 13 to October 16, 2025), with the goal of calling for a minimum of VND 65 billion to support Cuba in terms of healthcare, food, necessities, and sustainable development cooperation.

As of 8:00 a.m. on August 17, the program has received nearly VND292 billion. This week, 34 localities across the country will launch and call for the participation of officials, civil servants, public employees, armed forces, organizations, businesses and all people to support the Cuban people.
