Number of drug arrests increased by nearly 22%

During more than 5 years of implementing Directive No. 36-CT/TU, the fight against drug-related crimes has been carried out resolutely and effectively.

General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, said that specialized forces have achieved many feats, destroyed many organizations and transnational drug trafficking and transportation lines, seized huge quantities of drugs, and prevented Vietnam from becoming an international transit point for drugs.

In particular, the outstanding results were the discovery, fight and arrest of 122,066 cases, 186,950 drug-related criminals; confiscated more than 3,080 kg of heroin, 14,513.48 kg and 12,036,388 synthetic drug pills; 3,244.16 kg of marijuana... The national police force also established management records for 37,980 illegal drug users, 165,992 drug addicts, 16,932 people after drug rehabilitation... Compared to the same period before implementing Directive No. 36-CT/TU, the number of drug-related cases and criminals discovered and arrested increased by 21.83% and 21.95%, respectively...

In Hanoi, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quang Long said that in more than 5 years of implementing Directive No. 36-CT/TU, all levels, sectors and localities of the city have joined hands to prevent and combat drugs, building "Hanoi - One determination for a drug-free community". In addition to the work of eliminating complicated drug-related areas with positive results, not allowing complicated hot spots to occur; the city has effectively implemented the movement to build "Drug-free villages and residential groups"; built "Green Zones" in drug prevention and combat, the model of "Drug-free schools"; regularly organized drug prevention and combat propaganda competitions...

Despite positive results, the situation of drugs, crime and drug abuse in recent years is still very complicated, posing new, huge pressures, new requirements, higher, more urgent and urgent tasks. Recently, many new methods and tricks of crime have been discovered, using drones, through express delivery services, consigning goods, gifts, drugs with GPS devices and drifting at sea, hiding under the guise of businesses to produce drugs, marinating, mixing drugs into food, drinks...

Do not "outsource" to the police force

To continue to effectively implement drug prevention and control work in the new situation, the Politburo issued Conclusion No. 132-KL/TU (dated March 18, 2025) on continuing to implement Directive No. 36-CT/TU. Implementing the plan to implement Conclusion No. 132-KL/TU, the Government determined to properly implement the motto of "preventing supply, reducing demand, reducing the harm of drugs"; focusing on effective demand reduction solutions, focusing on prevention, focusing on grassroots areas and residential areas for implementation. The goal is that by the end of 2030, at least 50% of commune-level administrative units nationwide will be "drug-free".

Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang said that the fundamental solution to be implemented in the coming time is to sustainably reduce the demand for drugs; build drug-free communes and wards, towards drug-free provinces and drug-free societies. Along with that, priority will be given to investment in socio-economic development in key areas with complicated drug problems, creating jobs, improving the material and spiritual life of people, especially in border areas...

In Hanoi, the city identifies "every citizen as a soldier, every family as a fortress in drug prevention and control", contributing to building "Hanoi - Sharing a determination for a drug-free community".

Major General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of Hanoi City Police, said that the city will continue to resolutely implement solutions to reduce supply, reduce demand, and reduce the harmful effects of drugs; clearly identify key routes, areas, and points and gathering places to resolutely fight and handle, especially cases of taking advantage of cyberspace to commit drug-related crimes.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, drug prevention and control must be based on prevention, focusing on grassroots areas and residential areas; raising public awareness in drug prevention and control, and persistently building a culture of drug eradication in the whole society. In particular, it must be determined that drug prevention and control is the task of the entire political system and the whole society, not "leaving it all" to the police force.

The drastic and effective implementation of the above solutions, together with the fight by specialized forces in charge of drug prevention and control and international cooperation, will create strong changes in drug prevention, control and control, moving towards building a drug-free society.
