Meaningful English classes
On a weekend afternoon, at the Vinh Phuoc Ward Community Learning Center (Nha Trang City), the English lesson for children of the Tam Duc English Club began with excitement. Teacher Doan Dac Duc used fun English songs to create a joyful atmosphere before class. Vocabulary lessons were cleverly integrated with word matching games, word guessing, drawing, colorful flashcards, quizzes with prizes, etc., which were enthusiastically responded to by the children. The teacher talked, interacted, inspired, and led the children into the lesson with easy-to-understand vocabulary, dialogues, and contexts that were close to everyday life, while encouraging and motivating them to become more confident. Many children who were shy and timid at first have now boldly stood up to speak up and express their opinions.
Tam Duc English Club under the Khanh Hoa People Speaking English Program was established in February 2025, currently has nearly 70 members who are orphans, disabled children, etc. studying at the primary school class of Vinh Phuoc ward. The class is currently held regularly every Saturday afternoon, taught by volunteers and English teachers in rotation. Here, English is taught not according to a rigid curriculum but through games, songs, and interactive activities. That helps children approach the language naturally, from basic greetings to how to introduce themselves, ask for prices, things that can be applied immediately in daily life. Student Luu Hong Dieu shared: "I am very happy to learn English. The teachers are friendly and teach in an easy-to-understand way. I will try my best to study well!"

Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc, who has been involved in the charity class in Vinh Phuoc ward, where many children are studying at the English club, shared that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about giving them a chance to live, helping them rise up from their own difficult circumstances. Each child has a different situation and level of understanding, some are physically disabled, some are hearing impaired, some have had to wander around to make a living since they were young. But what they have in common is the desire to learn so that they can take care of themselves in the future. "If they know English, they can stand on their own two feet and escape poverty," Ms. Duc said.
In Tan Tien Ward (Nha Trang City), Thanh Tam Boarding House English Club is a common home for about 60 high school students from many provinces and cities, most of whom are ethnic minorities with difficult circumstances. Here, students learn basic English communication, participate in games and group activities to help practice self-confidence. With the guidance of professional volunteers of the program, each class here is always exciting and full of positive energy. The students' efforts and passion for learning have strongly inspired volunteers and organizers to continue to maintain and constantly improve the program's content.

Will replicate the model
Mr. Doan Van Tien - Professional Manager of Khanh Hoa People Speaking English Project said that Tam Duc English Club and Thanh Tam Boarding House English Club are special models, for students who are special children such as: Hearing impaired, visually impaired, children in difficult circumstances... What the program aims for is really exciting lessons, bringing laughter to the children, so that they can study comfortably and have an environment to practice foreign languages.
It is known that, up to now, the Khanh Hoa People Speaking English Program has established more than 250 English clubs in localities, schools, and social protection facilities with nearly 13,000 members. Each model is monitored for quality via video and periodically surveyed to ensure effectiveness and spread. In particular, with models such as Tam Duc English Club and Thanh Tam Boarding House English Club, the program hopes to create a premise for replication in many other localities. Thereby, not only helping children access knowledge but also spreading humanistic values: Every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the opportunity to learn and develop to realize their dreams.
