(LĐXH) - Receiving support from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, many poor households have developed their livelihoods and proactively written applications to leave poverty.
The households that have escaped poverty want to give their attention and support to those who are in even more difficult circumstances… The stories of the poor households themselves determined to defeat the “enemy of poverty” are a new source of energy that gives everyone optimism and the will to rise up in life.
Having health and land cannot be poor forever...
Ca Xen village, Thanh Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh ) has 57 households with 203 people. The people here are mainly Ma Lieng people of the Chut ethnic group. For generations, people have been engaged in agricultural production and depended on the mountains and forests, so their lives are still difficult and backward. Before 2020, all households in the village were poor.
Chairman of Thanh Hoa Commune People's Committee Tran Nhan Son said that people are always aware of economic development to escape poverty.
Therefore, when implementing the National Sustainable Target Program, in addition to direct support for the poor such as: Health insurance, electricity bills, tuition support for children of poor households..., authorities at all levels actively provide vocational training and career guidance to connect job search for workers; invest in infrastructure construction; support livelihood development models; guide people on livestock production techniques towards commodities...
Up to now, the whole Ca Xen village has dozens of workers working in enterprises with an income of 8 - 10 million VND/person/month. The whole village has 4.6 hectares of land for two-crop rice cultivation, ensuring enough food supply; in addition, people grow corn, peanuts, cassava, potatoes, vegetables; nearly 20 hectares of planted forests and raise livestock and poultry... Thanks to that, the economy of the people of Ca Xen village is increasingly improving.
By the end of 2022, Ho Xuan and Cao Thong's families voluntarily wrote an application to leave poverty. They were the first to apply to leave poverty because they saw that they had health and land, so they did not want to wait or rely on the State but wanted to develop their own economy.
A year later, the families of Ho Bot and Ho Chi Thanh also voluntarily wrote a petition to escape poverty. To date, the entire Ca Xen village has had 8 people write petitions to escape poverty.
Mr. Ho Xuan confided: “My wife and I have health, land, forests… and are party members, so we have to try to make a living to escape poverty and cannot rely on the State’s support forever. Currently, some households are doing well economically, we are mobilizing these households to apply to be removed from poverty.”
The family of Mr. Dao Van Sung, a Mong ethnic group in Thong Nhat village 1, is one of the households that submitted a request to be removed from the list of poor households in Yen Phu commune (Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang). Mr. Sung's family has been listed as a poor household since 2013 and has benefited from many policies and support from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
However, poverty still haunts his family. “If we only rely on the support and free handouts from the State, we will always be poor. If we rely on the mindset of dependence, we will be poor from generation to generation. Therefore, my wife and I are determined to get out of poverty and find suitable jobs to earn an income,” Mr. Sung shared.
True to his word, in 2023, Mr. Sung applied to be removed from the list of poor households and registered to learn the construction trade. With good health and now with additional skills, Mr. Sung has a regular job with a stable income of 200,000 VND/day.
Along with farming, raising chickens and pigs, his family's life is getting better and better. "Only when the economy is stable can we think about further things. So we have to get out of poverty to have the determination to get rich," said Mr. Sung.
"Being a poor household for many years is very shameful"
To escape poverty, each person has changed their awareness, no longer relying on the State's support but working hard to create income for their family. After many years on the list of poor households, in 2023, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (Thong Nhat village, Thuong Thang commune, Hiep Hoa, Bac Giang) voluntarily wrote a request to be removed from the list of poor households.
Ms. Hoa said that her family's life was very difficult in the past because her husband was sick and often had to go to the hospital for expensive treatment, and was unable to work; her two children were still young. Despite the difficulties, she always tried to escape poverty. Along with growing rice and vegetables, she boldly borrowed preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank to buy cows to raise.
Thanks to that, the economy gradually became more stable, she saved up some money to build a level 4 house, and had the conditions to take care of her children's education. "My family received a lot of support from the State: free health insurance card, exempted tuition fees for children, electricity support, preferential loans... so we overcame the most difficult period. When the economy improved, I proactively asked to be removed from the list of poor households," Ms. Hoa shared.
In previous years, Mr. Phan Van Lieu’s family (Suoi Tut village, Quang Chieu commune, Muong Lat, Thanh Hoa) as well as 26 households in Suoi Tut village were poor all year round. In recent years, thanks to the support of the government, Mr. Lieu has found a way to escape poverty. He grows oranges, raises pigs, cows, goats and encourages his son to go to Korea to work under contract.
Thanks to that, the family has a stable income. In 2023, he voluntarily wrote a request to be removed from the poor household. In the request, he wrote: “Thanks to the propaganda of the cadres, the family has learned how to grow crops, raise livestock and has an income. The children also have jobs and a stable income. My wife and I would like to be removed from the poor household to give those policies to other families who are in more difficult circumstances.”
Mr. Lieu said: “Seeing other families in the village having good economic conditions while we are always considered poor is also very embarrassing. No one wants us to stay poor forever to receive assistance from the State while we can still try to improve ourselves. So the family is determined to escape poverty at all costs.”
This year, his family has the most beautiful new house in the village. The money to build the house came from selling oranges, cows and the salary sent home by his children working abroad...
