Saudi Arabia club spends 70 million euros to buy Serie A's best striker

Atalanta have agreed to sell Italian striker Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah for a fee of €70 million.

Retegui left Europe for a dream salary.

According to journalist Michele Criscitiello of SportItalia , the two sides signed the agreement on July 9. Some other reputable sources such as Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto said that the final price could be slightly lower, but it is still a huge investment from the team that finished 4th in the Saudi Arabian national championship last season.

This deal surprised many fans, because Retegui had rejected a 53 million euro offer from Al-Qadsiah earlier this week. However, the player born in 1999 changed his mind after reaching a personal agreement with a salary of up to 20 million euros per season in the Saudi Pro League.

If the deal is completed, Retegui will become the second most expensive player sale in Atalanta's history, behind only Rasmus Hojlund's €75 million move to Manchester United.

Retegui impressed in Serie A last season, scoring 25 goals in 36 appearances to finish as the top scorer. He moved to Atalanta from Genoa last summer for €28 million, and in just two seasons the Italian striker's value has doubled.

If nothing changes at the last minute, Serie A will lose one of its best strikers. If he plays impressively enough, Retegui still has a chance to be called up to the national team for major tournaments.
